MacT gets a D-.

Rookie GM hires rookie coach. Makes rookie mistakes at the draft table by trading down instead of taking BPA. Rookie GM and his puppet master force two assistant coaches upon the new coach. Same ole scouting staff that blew the 2012 draft came away from this one slightly better.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Look for a worse finish in 2013/14 than 2012/13.

The bright side is our new GM has an IQ greater than that of the average house dog, unlike our last GM. How the **** KLowe keeps his job is beyond me. Nice job Harold Ballard.

Someone mentioned that one of the problems in the draft was that that it was set up for tv. The 3 min time limit basically pushed the GM's against the wall. Basically making them walk away from deals rather then have the time crunch to make a deal.

They can call timeouts and whatnot. That isnt an excuse. Obviously some teams were able to make difficult trades in the time frame allowed.

I don't know if anybody noticed this but it seems like MacT is telling Dreger everything short of his cup size. The guy knows everything we're doing.

MacT Better Than Advertised?

http://thefarmclub.net/2013/07/03/ma...an-advertised/

Not that it was hard but it seems like he's outperforming Tambo. Bonus points for realizing he could select a non-forward in the first round.

Dreger? He's been telling the world what he wants to do from day one. Tambo was excellent in this regard as it should be with a gm. Keep your mouth shut, don't show your cards and all of your signings and trades come out of the blue. (Tambio sucked at almost everything else as a gm mind you.)

here's a question. What's worse: What MacT did (turn second round picks into 5th round picks) or what MacT could have done (overpay on a bad trade like pay Van's asking price for Schnider)?

I wonder if MacT is going to claim one of the D that went on waivers yesterday.

Kris Russell would be an upgrade on Potter, and could play with Klefbom on the bottom pair.

All that mattered to me was that we didn't trade down from 7th overall. I was expecting our 2nd round picks to be used on actual NHL players and not turned into 5 draft picks. Roy was a good pick and I would have loved to trade up to draft Fucale but on the bright side we have more AHL prospects now.

I don't have a problem with trading of the picks. They clearly had some players on their radar they just needed some additional picks to make things happen. Slepyshev would have been a decent pick at 37 anyways so don't have a problem with it. That Schneider trade on the other hand would have been ugly. The diffence in the 7th pick to the 9 alone is equivalent to a late second rounder, then to add in another second and top prospect...it would have been ugly. Good call Mac T.

I liked the comment about the deal rate per spoken word. It seems to me it has been a long time since we've seen this much self-reflection from Oilers management, a crew that cries out for a huge load of it.

The article is titled "MacT more PATIENT than advertised", not "better".

OP has 89 threadstarts among 246 posts, Starts redundant thread on MacT when a thread on MacT is already on top of board and hard to miss.

Does this really require its own thread?

I have PMed one of the higher ups to see what options are available for HF partners. Locked until I hear back from him.

Edit: Merging into MacT thread.

Tambo was excellent at holding his cards to his chest, well, because he had no cards. The guys head is a vacuum

That's fine, that aspect of gming he was 100 times better than MacT and from what I have heard from MacT re spilling the beans on who he wants to draft, who is not going to be on the team, that we need to upgrade tending, that he has dreams about who we should pick in the draft Tambo might not be alone with the head in the vacuum bit.

Sorry I meant a non-pick only trade.

An Actual player trade means doing a lot more background work, like contract status, cap hit juggling, etc.

The picks for picks trades at the draft doesn't have to do any of that, so I'm guessing takes a lot less time.
