Hockey definitely has way more "I don't want to be in the spotlight" types than any other sport I follow.

I agree with the lack of media pressure part. I was more or less addressing the "float" part. Don't get me wrong, Nashville has had floaters. They don't tend to last very long, though.

Nashville is not a normal city. Celebrities aren't berated here. People are used to seeing famous people shopping at the grocery store, eating at restaurants just like everyone else, or having a drink at a bar downtown. Whether they be famous country musicians, actors or athletes, people tend to be left alone when they are out and about down here.

Dallas would not suprise me at all. New ownership is dying to do something big - let him reunite with Weiss ...

I'd pass on a 1st time UFA player who has this attitude.

I don't know what Dallas cap situation is.. but, it sounds like a perfect place for team and player.

It's pathetic that some players want to stay out of hockey markets.

Your issues with teams being in certain areas notwithstanding, there are a lot of good hockey markets in "non-traditional" areas.

You are correct, I apologize. I used the wrong word. I meant large hockey markets.

Eh... Some players play hockey for money, others play it because they love it.

If we're allowed to be self-deprecating here, if you only count the last 45 years then Toronto is a hockey market without any tradition...

Why is it pathetic? A lot of players just want to play hockey. I don't see a problem with that. All of a sudden Horton is a bad guy? If he signs with a place like Dallas and just floats around you have the right to hate on him.. but, that hasn't happened.

Last time we took a right winger (Ryder) off the hands of Boston it worked out nicely. I would like Horton here, but the length of contract will be a bit of a concern. Nichushkin, Chiasson, Ritchie, Stransky will all be looking for those top six minutes in the next 2-3-4 years.

What other sport has a bunch of teams in non-traditional markets? Only the NHL is dumb enough to force feed their sport to a market that doesn't care about it. If other leagues had this sort of bizarre set up you'd probably realize that a lot of players in those leagues would prefer to be out of the spotlight as well.

All of the "purists" refer to LA and a non traditional market.

First off, Horton does not shy away from the spot light. You must've missed the last two significant playoff runs the B's had. He was arguably our best forward in both of them, and he has scored multiple playoff OT goals in the B's sweater. If anything, he LOVES the spotlight (which might be why he goes to a lesser team- to be a go -to-guy so to speak).

As for it being "all about the money", maybe those claiming that should learn a thing or two as well. It isn't. Simply put, his wife Tammy really wants to live somewhere sunny. Horton is pretty much Brad Stuart as a forward.

Judging by the things I hear a lot of posters from "hockey markets" say around here, I don't blame anybody for not wanting to play somewhere like that.

I disagree.

Not everyone is a type A personality. So people can't handle the constant scrutiny. So people just want to play the game and that's it. They don't want to have to answer questions from overweight 50 year old's who think they can fix a team with a single article.

Benn said he doesn't think he could play in Canada because of the the pressure.

Heatley was thrilled when he went to SJ and there was 2 reporters asking him about the trade.

To each his own. Let the guy live his life the way he wants to.
