Mason has as much talent and success (mostly pre-NHL) if not more than anyone we've had in forever.
He was in a crappy situation in Columbus, made the best of it his first season, and then got sucked in by a vortex of despair.
He's been welcomed into the locker room far more than Bryz ever was in just a short time. He's played and won with a bunch of these guys as well.
He's motivated, talented, and has a fantastic team cemented around him.
I think Mason will be just fine.
I hope you are right....I'm just really tired of this. At least the Ranger's organization, except for a small window before Lundqvist arrived, rarely deal with this goalie dilemma ..at least not to our extent since we always seem to have a questionable number 1 goalie. Really Chechmanek was the closest thing and that was only for a few years.
Mason has it in him to be a #1 goalie, he showed that when he won the Calder. I know guys can make turn a round's with changes in scenery. If he can stay focused, and play like he did at the end of last year, then this could be our chance to move past the whole goalie issue.
Because it's spinning half-truths and doesn't shed any real light on the situation.
It puts more emphasis on how the city screwed Bryzgalov up and far less emphasis on the fact that Bryzgalov's terrible play was the reason that the city attacked him in the first place.
Bryz was embraced like a hero when he signed. Remember Philly Cheese Bryz and all the fun we were all having?
The media even played nice for the longest time. In fact, HFBoards was being the hardest on Bryz while the media tip-toed the issue forever. I remember being particularly pissed about this.
When the media FINALLY commented on Bryzgalov's poor play, it was everybody else's fault; Laviolette, his defense, the system, his tandem partner, the media, and even the fans.
He sucked here, basically from day one. Everyone gave him a chance. Even I gave him a chance. When he signed, I didn't like the contract, but I said many times that at least we won't have to worry about it anymore. He can probably make up for the losses at other areas because of his cap hit.
I now regret saying the slightest good thing about him.
The media is retarded here. and there is more pressure on a goalie in philly then elsewhere especially with as ridiculous a contract as the one we gave bryzgalov. Management created the situation themselves especially in light of new evidence that noone was bidding against us. I believe to this day bryzgalov would've worked out if we gave him a raise from the 4.2 he was making maybe 5 mil for 5 years and realized that you can't gut a team with youngins and newcomers, slap em together and expect immediate success. it don't work that way. and bob forget it. thats the ultimate in impatience. laviolette is behind all this recent B.S. I hope it works out for us tho, i just hope my recurring nightmare of homer and laviolette getting the boot next summer don't come true. or maybe i do.
Lots of sour grapes and petty bitterness in here. He's not exactly far off. That is the perception of our organization and he wasn't given an ideal development time here exactly. The fans here do tend to be rough on goalies since we've been in a constant goalie carousal for a long time now. I personally believe Bob was the best goalie talent we've had here in a while and his Vezina kind of confirms that for now at least.
Don't be mad at Bob for a popular opinion as harmless and semi-true as the one he stated.
