7.5 wouldve been ideal but anything under 8 is pretty sweet.

It makes no difference if you make $10 an hour or $5 million a year -- we're talking about your pay in comparison to others in your profession.

I work in academia where I make probably 35% less than I could if I went corporate. Sometimes, it's about security, and comfort. In addition, that 35% isn't chump change, it's easily a five digit figure in disparity to someone who doesn't make much money (due to endless student loans).

... you've made some pretty blanket statements, such that every pro athlete has an ego. C'mon.

Pretty much.

And 7.75 AAV is what he's lookin' for. The negotiations haven't finished yet. Homer may get it done for 7.5.

Anyway, as you said, any cap number with a 7 at the beginning would be nice.

I honestly thought he'd start at 9....7.5 isn't bad at all for a 90+ point scorer.

Get this done so we put a stop the troll post along the lines of the Flyers are out of cap space we're going to offersheet Giroux to 9+, you can't match, blah, blah, blah.

Next up on the HF comedy show, Giroux is over rated and his new contract is terrible, Homers is an idiot for giving Giroux this type of deal he's only hit PPG what once in his career, Giroux wouldn't do ***t in a defense system, Crosby's still better a player, with a better contract might I add, ect, ect, ect.

0.25m more than I expected. Solid. Take it Holmgren.

Wonder what the Main Boarders are going to do when they can't ponder about revenge offer sheets for Giroux anymore.

7.75 probably looks better if the cap goes up too... Anything less than double his cap hit now ($8.5m) is mint, especially if you can get longer term deals worked out with Couturier and Schenn midseason time, having gauged their level of play, before the cap goes up (if it does).

Probably laugh at our "cap issues" and then say Giroux is overrated. Oh, and the Penguins are better.

7.50m is double what he's making now, which is why I expected it.

Also, I get the sense that Schenn and Couturier are looking at bridge contracts lesser than what Giroux got (because Giroux had basically broken out at that point).

Giroux got 3.75m for 70+ points.

I expect 3.00m for Schenn and maybe 2.50-2.75m for Couturier.

Completely doable and completely sustainable.

You know what I thought I'd mess the math up I doubled the .75 to get 1.5 then added it to two 3's which I'd made out to be 7... Wonder why I've never thought of a career in accounting...

Looking at it another way for $1.25M more than Briere I can have Giroux? Yes please.

How long would they still have as RFA's, 3 year deals? Or is it different for each because they're an age year different? Not sure how RFA status works...

I ran across a Kings fan today who thought Philly would face recapture penalties if Carter and Richards retired early.

I would be squeezing Schenn and Couts a bit. Schenn only got $900,000 in real money. Did he really do enough to triple his money. Nope...not yet. Try and sign these 2 guys to 2-2.5 mill per for 3 years.

ELC is three years in most cases (definitely ones like Giroux, Schenn, Couturier, and Laughton).

Then in the old CBA, you could get a 3 year contract that took you to one last year of RFA status in most cases (like Giroux). This was called a bridge contract.

I'm not sure if we get extra RFA years now though under this new CBA. I think I remember hearing something about it.

ELC salaries are dramatically curtailed to begin with, so this is a bad premise.

Get him down to 7.5 a year and that's a fine-assed contract.
