Seems like a good fit. The Oilers suck, Ballard has sucked for (at least) three seasons.

CAP SPACE (19-man roster): $4,497,222

That is essentially our base line-up with 4.5mil to sign depth and upgrade throughout. With the cap going down, this just isn't a good year to "shake up" our roster unfortunately. We need to invest some money in a good #3C, possibly move Schroeder to wing, and then look for some late steals to add quality depth. Fortunately for us, other teams are in the same or worse situations as we are. There are a ton of teams out there that will be sacrificing depth, I like to think our roster is better prepared for it than most.
Our success hinges on how well Kassian and Booth perform... they really have to live up to their expectations for us to make the playoffs without Raymond. I don't like our lack of footspeed on defense. The team is better than most, but doesn't look that great considering we have very little speed or physicality in all the important positions. The team is very talented and is good defensively though.

i feel that gillis is the worst poker player like ever. he tries to bluff people into trades when everyone can see he doesn't have the leverage he's trying to create. the luongo cluster****. the ******** edler trading block smoke screen. and putting ballard on regular waivers is the height of that. why would any gm pick him and his crap contract up before the obvious move to buy him out 2 days later? so transparently dumb.

Highlighted what was potentially the smartest part of that? I'm sure that Aquillini said, "Don't even try normal waivers maybe someone will pick him up but it will mostly just piss off mrbitterguy, I'll just throw large sums of my money at him." Stupid Gillis.

Yep, it's an excuse to hate on Gillis and Aquilini. It's the same attitude that leads people to insist that Gillis needs to "make a big move" to prove he wants to compete and then whines about it later. Our management has made plenty of decisions worth questions and criticizing over the last couple of years, but plenty of the crowd around here is really digging deep to find foolish things to attack.

I strongly suspect some people would've *STILL* cried if Ballard was claimed by some bottom feeder team. (eg., "What BS! That's no way to treat a player that was a complete professional throughout his time on the team - to put him in a position where he has no say were he goes. Gillis has no heart!").....

I'm certain many of these people are fans of other teams with nothing better to do. Besides I don't take children and especially adults that write like children seriously. Like you get what am sayin muddier buffers (haha great iPhone spell check)

Ballard got a raw deal in Vancouver.

Hope he goes somewhere and plays well.

Then people will be "Where was that?" and "We should have kept him".

I fear for whoever plays net behind him though when he's on the ice for a goal....

Well, we bought someone out. Does this mean that the hysteria about ownership not spending enough dies down now?

Sucks it didn't work out here for Ballard. I'm sure he'll find a team without a problem as he won't be a bad pickup for a cheaper, short term deal. Best of luck to Ballard.

Yeah he needs to come up with something else, this way works great for players on ending contracts as you then can wait and there will be offers from other teams but as a GM needing to make a move and it's very clear then it'd kinda silly.

the biggest change happened, removing the coach that cannot motivate players. he even proudly proclaims that he doesn't feel that he should have to motivate them, they should do it themselves. with a new coach, who has a track record of, and plans to utilize and teach younger players, that is a whole new way of approaching the game.

Really? Pretty sure he got paid millions of dollars to play hockey (no matter what his on ice performance was like)..

And say what you will about the team's style vs his, but Ballard never once outplayed the lefties ahead of him on the Canucks blueline. Hell he rarely outplayed his most frequent defense partner, Chris Tanev.

He never even outplayed Tanev - maybe once but that was likely it.

He got a raw deal in that if he ****ed up once, AV had his as stapled to the bench.

When Bieksa ****ed up all the time, he got more minutes.

AV played favourites, simple as that.

You cannot tell me in watching the Canucks play that that wasn't true aka Rome.
