Chicago has Bickell and Shaw. Not a lot, but it's there. I'd argue that the Rangers currently have no legitimate toughness on their roster outside of Dorsett, and I guess Callahan, but he's not scaring anyone.

It depends on what you consider "toughness." That's very vague. Asham isn't tough?

Well, I don't have Asham on my everyday roster. I think he's the 13th/14th forward, if he isn't traded. But, yeah, he's tough.

A regular buyout counts against the cap. The player is paid either 1/3rd or 2/3rds of his remaining salary over twice the remaining years, depending on his age. Under 26, 1/3rd. 26 and older, they get 2/3rds.

That amount becomes his cap hit, but is adjusted each year based on the difference between his previous cap hit and previous salary for that year.

For example, Pyatt's cap hit is 1.55 mil. His pay next season will be 1.65 mil. If we were to buy him out, he would get paid 1.1 mil over 2 years (550k per year).

The cap hits would be 450k next year and 550k the year after. Next year is lower because his salary for that year (1.65 mil) is higher than his original cap hit for that year (1.55 mil) by 100k. If the salary is high enough compared to the original cap hit, the buyout cap hit can actually be negative for the year.

With Richard's contract, the last 3 years are much, much lower in salary than his cap hit. So even though the payout would be small, the cap hits would be large.

Capgeek has a buyout calculator.

I don't mind an Asham/Boyle/Dorsett fourth line. I like Asham, he can play and he's gritty.

But yeah, I didn't mean to come off sarcastic. I'm just saying toughness can be a grinder, a fighter, etc. It's a vague term.

I think your general point is that our big players (Nash/Kreider/Boyle) are not "tough," and I have to agree. But we have guys who can go and get it (Hags, Cally) and grind it out. If McIlrath is up, that will add some toughness, as someone alluded to earlier.

Lets wait and see what he does when its Lucic and not some p**** from the SEL. Hey if he comes over and does the same thing against the big boys I'll eat my words. But that video was less than impressive. I'm sure Jeff Skinner has pushed someone before too.

What do you except him to do, knock his teeth out?

He's not laying people out on the ice but he's far from soft.

I think our top 6 that we will be going into the season with will be good especially with our new coach. If Richards can recover his game, which I believe he can, that will be a big boost. I think Kreider will have a very good year.

Hagelin-Richards-Nash: Good offensive line, speed with Hags, good passer in Rich, and someone who can finish in Nash

Kreider-Stepan-MZA: Another offensive line, good playmaking with MZA, good finisher and skater with Kreider, and solid two way player who can do it all in Stepan

Kristo/Miller-Brassard-Callahan: Good two way line, solid scoring with Brassard and Cally, also good two way play, Kristo or Miller could be a young hungry player to go with this line

Haley-Boyle-Dorsett- Energy, physicality, grit, toughness, with occasional scoring from Boyle and Dorsett.

No but it would be nice if he did the same thing like he does in that video over here in NA against bigger, stronger, tougher players.

And by the way I do think Lindberg will eventually turn into a solid two way 3rd line center.

According to CBC's Elliotte Friedman, Rask's contract is expected to be in the neighborhood of $56 million over eight years
http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/ey...trice-bergeron

Rask, a RFA, after only 1 and 1/2 seasons (with deep playoff run) is going to be worth 7mil per season. I think he's well worth the contract, but Lundqvist's agents have a big bargaining chip. Anyone expecting less than 7mil is in for a rude awakening.

If he wants more than like $8.5M, I'd seriously consider shopping him.

Surprisingly quiet on the free agency front today. I would think that not a lot gets done until Friday when teams can officially sign players.

Want some scoring on the bottom 6? Nate Gerbe just got bought out by Buffalo. Small, but would go through a wall for his team and can PK.

Seems risky for a team that's built it's personnel around the goaltender, but if it leads to a rebuilding phase, I would do it.

Nathan Horton's agent, Paul Krepelka, confirms Horton was in Columbus today/tonight.

It'd literally be the same spot as for Ryder or MacArthur or Raymond or or or.

I get not wanting the player, but lets be reality here, the spot is there.
