It's fairly safe to say that his agent is in the know and will be advising him properly. Fact is, for his game, the CHL would be the best thing possible. The USHL will be the 'back-up' option, but could very well happen.

At this point in time though, I can't imagine he's looking at going the college route, but that option is certainly still open. If he is consdering this, then he must go the USHL route as his only other options are the CHL (if London can even fit him in) or going pro at some level in Germany.

It's already in the news in Rimouski that he will report to the team.

oh my god... Who could have expected that!? Very exciting, as there were only two Swiss in the Histroy of the CHL Import Draft who have withdrawn after being selected...

But this is a major kick in the ass for our Swiss Junior League System....

Not only that, will teams like Biel still be interested to invest in players like Ehlers, when there is nearly no chance he will play ever again for them?

Good size, good skater, finishes checks, goes through checks, competes hard, good energy, okay skills, limited hockey sense. Bottom six forward probably.

With William Carrier already being there, a decent defense and solid goaltending, Cape Breton could realistically go from last to first in the Q next season..... if everyone reports to the Cape....

And they would be amazing for a long time... Bureau and Bell are 17 and 16 as well.. this is ridiculous.
why wouldn't Roy play for them?

Well the dream scenario for Halifax one month ago was to get players like Eichel, MacKinnon, Drouin, and Hayden back.... Now that all seems like a pipedream/almost all of it is. But it sounds like we got two prettyy good young players if we can get them to report, which hasn't been a problem for the Mooseheads really looking back..

We could have Ashley, Ciampini, Andrews, Ryan, Falkenham, Lacroix, Ehlers, Meier... And on the off chance we get Drouin we could go for it again... Gotta think that's unlikely though.

Very interesting article out of Denmark stating Ehlers' intentions to play for "Moosehead"

Says that he is good friends with Timo Meier, that he's been in discussions with Halifax for a while and was aware he'd be their first selection.

Exciting times continue in Halifax, assuming google translate is accurate!

I really hope Rihards Bukarts comes over, hes got some immense talent, but if hes drafted as high as number 7,im guessing the wheat kings have already struck a mutual deal with him,so his Dinamo Rīga contract wont be a problem.

The most important thing are development fees

Have a look at international player tranfers in football, hockey and basketball.

1) FIFA and FIBA ban international transfers of players under 18 yrs (exceptions if family moved or the player leaves country to study). IIHF does not ban international transfers of players under 18 yrs. Club can ban tranfer if the player has pro-contract. I would like to ask you how many players U18 have such pro-contract in Finland. Majority of U18 players, or almost nobody? If almost nobody, how can clubs keep their top prospects? I have no problem if euro players go to CHL (or slovaks/czechs to SHL/SM-Liiga) at the age of 16... I have problem if they go for free.

Quote:
A former member national association can only refuse to sign a LOA if one of the four reasons in section I article 2.2(c) exists

2.2 c)
The former member national association may only refuse to sign the transfer card (or LOA) if:1) the player is a signed professional player currently under a professional player contract (refer to section II article 4 for appeal procedures)
http://www.iihf.com/fileadmin/user_u...s_20130204.pdf

2) FIFA and FIBA have mechanism of developing fee which must pay new club of a player to his former club... and this is paid if a player is/is not under contract. If a player is under contract, his club can ask transfer fee as well (in NBA case part of transfer fee is paid by player as I wrote earlier). In hockey there is not "development fee" if a player transfers from lets say Europe to CHL or SM-Liiga to KHL/SHL...
