Yeah, the Wings checked in after the whole Suter debacle but Weber wanted to go to Philly.

Honestly, I'd give Pietrangelo as high as 67 million for 7 years. Roughly a 9.5 million dollar cap hit and losing 4 first round draft picks, but the team will be so much better that those draft picks may not have been that great anyways. St. Louis has the cap space to match, but also has Chris Stewart to worry about as well.

He and Giroux are the only two guys I would offer sheet in the next few off seasons. Someone mentioned Giroux at 8.75 per, which sounds pretty fair given his talent.

Holland wanted to trade for Weber. At that point Philly offer sheeted so it was either Philly or Nashville. Pretty much just Kenny making an idle play to make it look like he was surveying the landscape. I don't enjoy ripping on Holland, just pointing out he hasn't done much of anything since Marian Hossa agreed to accept a one year deal. And it was Hossa who made that deal happen.

There was rumors before last season that the Wings were interested in trading for him but the asking price was too high. Nyquist or Smith + 1st round pick.

Outside of Dustin Penner, offersheets never work. It's just a fruitless venture. Give it up.

I believe it was farther back. Think it was some combo of Hulder/Kindl + for Bogosian.

I wish we had made that trade. Kindl is good but I would rather have Bogosian.

Hudler... another guy we could have traded many times but held on to him like some untouchable prospect.

No, Holland won´t offersheet anyone. But it wouldn´t matter, as none of the offers would be unmatched, and only cause friction with another GM.

Sad part is, despite wasting virtually an ENTIRE day at work arguing about the Red Wings; still here.

Just slammed my foot into a door, having trouble sleeping.

did some digging to confirm

From Bob Duff:

#thrashers asking price for Bogosian - Hudler, Ericsson or Kindl and high draft pick - too big a price for #redwings to pay at this point.
As a Detroit fan, I'd do it.

Det did use those picks on Ouellet and Jurco though, as they traded down with that first.

So it was:

Bogosian <> Hudler + Kindl + Ouellet + Jurco

Too bad that the worst GM of hockey didn't pull that trade.

He's being sarcastic. Henkka has been advising patience/isn't as unhappy with the offseason as many 'round here.

Believe the original report said Hulder or Ericsson or Kindl plus a draft pick for Bogosian.

So it would be more like Hulder + Ouellet/Jurco for Bogosian

When you consider Hudler's no longer on the team, and Bogo has blossomed into a pretty good young d-man, then the trade really doesn't look that bad either way.

Yes, that kind of deal would have been good for both sides.

If Jurco and Ouellet become what we project.

Otherwise it's Kindl and Hudler for Bogo. Hudler was lost to FA anyway, and Kindl is #4-5 dman as of now. And Bogo is over 3 years younger than Kindl.

Don't think Hudler + 1st would have done it. Even with Atlanta management.

Late 1st and top 6 F who becomes UFA next year.

When you offer sheet and the team doesn't match don't we lose picks?

Part of why I really wish someone will crack the Flyers and Holmgren across the knuckles for it.
Problem. If caught, tampering charges will be brought against the Wings.

I could easily see this back-firing.

FWIW -- I believe the Flyers are currently in negotiations on a new contract with Giroux.
