According to Pierre Lebrun we are on the final list of the three teams Briere is deciding on which includes Preds,Montreal and Devils...

Devils seem like his most likely destination IMO.

The Devils are broke. It makes sense for briere in regards to proximity of family. I'm hoping we pull this off.

Yeah I think we are in his top three because we are offering maybe the most money. Devils have the location advantage. Montreal would be the wildcard choice of the three IMO.

Why? The last thing this team needs is an injury-prone 36 year old forward. Once again its wanting a player based on his name and past. I would take Roy or Riberio in a second over this guy.

My guess currently is that the preds are clearing space for vanek and will overpay in a trade for him, taking the risk of not being able to re-sign him.

Not to be the pessimistic guy, but out of those three he could possibly be the only one that wants to sign here. Some people won't be happy if we get Briere, but those same people and the rest of us will be really unhappy if we get no one.

Crazy idea, sign Ballard to be the LHD for Klein

Josi-Weber
Ballard-Klein
Bartley-Jones

Rinne waiting for what's left.

Trade a D for a wing in the top 9 and then, though I'm not completely sold on it, Briere for C.

Time for round two: For Briere, Nashville was winning this race. But, it would seem Montreal is most likely at this point

This times 10000. We MUST get at least one NHL forward this summer at a bare minimum. Briere at leats is looking for a short term deal which would be better for us so just remember the alternative to signing a UFA is a regular roster spot for Rich Clune.

Briere is solid enough that you couldn't really complain if the Preds signed him unless it was something stupid like giving him 5 years or $10 million per year or something like that.

He did put up 49 points in 70 games in 2011-12 and 68 points in 77 games the year before. Obviously you'd like someone younger but that's not always realistic. Still hoping they go after Ribeiro though.

Do not want ... I'd much rather have Brunner in the top 6 than an old ass Briere.

Based on what I have been looking at, I think the Preds are in a very even battle with Montreal for Briere and are waist deep in Stalberg and Peter Mueller.

FF Legwand Wilson
Briere Fisher Hornqvist
Spaling Smith Borque
Mueller Goose Clune

Josi-Weber
Jones-Klein
Ellis-Bartley

Rinne
?

Not flashy, but decently serviceable. I would rather see Ellis and Smith Packaged for a center/sniper and get a bottom pairing D man in free agency instead. Maybe we could bring DiPietro in as a back up.

Seems like a decent enough player, but with the whole fighting with teammates, getting arrested, and then biting incidents does the management want him?

Grabo is interesting, but do we need the cap hit? Picking him up directly off of waivers saddles us with the full hit. I'd much rather see if he clears, and hope his price tag comes down a bit. He isn't a 1C.

Grabo would be nice. He's on waivers for a buy-out - well worth a short term 3.5 million AAV deal.

Consider me fully aboard the Briere Train. He says that he still has game left, and the reason that he didn't do so well last year was because he went into the season with an injured wrist. Briere is a monster in the playoffs. If by some miracle we were to land both him and Horton and we made the playoffs mostly healthy, we would probably be set up for a decent run.

Ribiero would be great too, we haven't had a vet with that much potential offense in a while. With our new size first scheme, I could see us trying to land Clarkson.

Nevermind. There was a thread started Tuesday. I missed it. That's what twelve hour days will do to you

Looks like he is one of our compliance buy outs though.

Holy crap this is a gift. While not a first line center, he is for sure a 2nd line center, bumping Fisher down to the 3rd line and allowing legwand to play wing.

While I am totally 100% against him off the ice (hitting women is never ok) he is literally exactly what the Preds need if we can't have a 1st line center. Then we can trade Smith and Ellis for a better forward, add a depth forward and call it a day

Legwand Wilson Vanek/someone
FF Grabo Hornqvist
Spaling Fisher Borque
Mueller Goose Clune

Significantly better. MUCH MUCH MUCH better. I guess it's a question would you rather have Ribiero or Grabo?

Does Grabo make this team better? Can he be a #1 center. I keep hearing he was misused in Toronto...

Briere has missed 20% of his team's games since the 05 lockout, at a rate of 15 games per season. He's not the guy who put up 95 points in Buffalo anymore. We'll still need smoke and mirrors to get back to the playoffs if he's our biggest acquisition.

Grabovski? I don't know. He had a brutal year with Toronto, but had a pretty good track record with them before that year. The guy will work hard for a good coach. He might be worth a gamble on a two or three year deal.

With Erat and Sk gone, along with missing one of the top 3 forwards in the draft, Poile has to sign at least one forward, probably two. Look for him to overpay one of the UFAs, and/or overpay via a trade. Probably offering Brier substantially more than NJ and MTL. He can't open the season without filling the void left by Erat and SK. Discounting last season, these two accounted for a significant amount of our offensive production.
