So if he's bought out, is this the compliance type or regular buy out?

He's only 1.75m...kind of pocket change to buy out, no?

It would be a regular buy out. Compliance buyouts are used to avoid the cap hit of a normal buyout. No need to waste a compliance buyout on a small contract.

No we'll save those compliance buyouts for whatever bad deals MacT hands out this summer. (ie Clarkson, Emery and others we can't imagine yet)

We only lose players when we have a replacement in mind....

But seriously. I imagine Magnus Paajarvi's celebrating with his secret voodoo doll of Belanger.

I remember when he signed. I was quite happy about it.
boy I was so wrong about how he'd help the Oilers.

If it's any consolation, you were hardly the only one.

For whatever reason, whatever offense he had went into the toilet. At least his defense and faceoffs remained passable, but it wasn't nearly stellar enough to compensate.

Well there is some love for Eric B in Pittsburg. A guy tweeted he figured Eric would be good in Pitt on the fourth line to hit and win face offs. Grab him like a rabbit buddy, he is all yours.

Funny thing is he likely would be a good fit there.

If there's one player who could counteract the Belanger Triangle, my money's on Sidney Crosby.

Also, for what it's worth, everyone in the universe though this was a good signing when Belanger came here as a FA (the length of the contract might have been one year too long for some, but that's nitpicking).

Problem now is our center depth for next season is:

RNH (injured)
Gagner
Horcoff (soon to be bought out/waived/traded)
... Lander, maybe?

Yikes.

Lots of center options out there in free agency with all these buyouts. By the hints guys like Stauffer/Rishaug are dropping, Boyd Gordon is all but locked up. Weiss/Ribeiro/Grabovski/Filppula if we're desperate for a 2nd liner.

Although Stauffer said yesterday that he expects Lander to be the 4th line centre next season.

Which is horrifying.

Not saying I mind the Belanger buyout whatsoever, because **** that guy. But still, MacT needs to do something about this PRONTO or we're going to get SLAUGHTERED next season.

Obviously expected a lot more from him. I thought it was a good signing at the time. If he had played to his potential, he would have been a guy that would have really helped us out.

Perhaps MacT still thinks he can trade him. But when teams are simply buying out good players who cost too much, who would pay for Horcoff? Nobody.

And it's official - Mact is an idiot, and is wasting a compliance buyout on someone who has 1 year, 1.25 million left on his contract.

Meanwhile the real buyout candidate is being retained because the GM is a delusional fanboy who thinks Horcoff still worth something on the trade market.
