Wasnt gonna get a discount though. He had 100% of the leverage. Team wasnt gonna risk losing him.

He will be making around what eric staal perry and getzlaf makes. He might not have the resume but with the contract they are assuming he will.

A little one to leave room for signing other players, yeah.

Ehh I'm kind of Lukewarm about this. Obviously any contract is better than losing him. And I don't blame Claude for wanting to get what he's worth. Its not like he is a 30 year old player that were gonna have to worry about what to do with his contract in a few years. But I can see why some are upset. I mean Claude knows that Schenn and Couturier need new contracts. He knows the position the Flyers are in. They have a chance to win now and in the near future. Taking a small discount might have been worth leaving room for the team to build a little more. But it's easy for me to say that since its not my money. I don't know. I don't think Giroux is selfish or anything though. He's the face of the team and does everything for us.

I was always thinking it would be somewhere in the $7.5M-$8.5M range so I'm not real disappointed. I was hoping he would give us a little break but oh well.

I don't know what I said when Malkin got extended, but I'm seeing anything under 9 as a great deal for the Flyers. He's one of the premiere talents in the game playing for a marketable franchise. No problem with him being one of the top few paid players in the game.

Rumours say: New contract will have a full NMC.

Good for him. There is no reason for any player to take a hometown discount anymore. We had a lockout because teams *****ed and complained about how they couldn't afford high salaries and they keep giving insane money to players.

I love g he kid is talented as hell but I don't think hes shown the consistency to demand a high end long term deal like that. if hes dead set on 8+ im willing to let him tst the waters

The NMC isn't going to be an issue, could you imagine wanting to move Giroux?

Yea it's always a bad idea to pay for potential as far as accomplishments. I think he'll lead us to a cup etc so it's prob worth it. But you are paying him based on that max. Anything short and it's a bad idea.

Yea not a huge discount just 1 mill or less off the market. He's going for full market value...I'd rather not even sign him yet. See how it goes if he plays crazy well he still gets 8.3. If he doesn't for whatever reason maybe you get him under 8

If he lives up to that contract then I'm perfectly fine with it.

It kinda scares me that he had only one amazing (93 pts) year.

Our top player to hit the water? And let Vinny Lecav be our top center? Not gonna happen thankfully. We would be in full tank mode for a few years.

Dont know what your talking about consistency though. Mind you he didnt lead the league in points last season but still lead the team playing with Voracek only a small percentage of the time.

the thing is , when you sign a 8.3 a year deal, you can't out perform that contract you can only underperform. And in hockey the chances are high that he under performs that contract. I love giroux but lets be honest, you dont see many centers of his built having long careers.

Giroux, in a down year, played at PPG pace.

Enough said.

Yea I agree. Idk I know I'm not in the majority but if I'm homer I don't pay him that much...whatever that may mean

How much of that was because Vorachek was moved to his line and the PP.
