8.3 per year? That kind of cap hit is only going to handcuff our team in the long run. Why not wait until Giroux plays the final year of his current contract to get a better idea if his increased point production stays consistent enough to earn that kind of money.

I don't like this one bit.

#Flyers #NHL News - Giroux deal is in fact done. It is 8 years, 66 million, 8.25 million AAV with a full NMC.
per Jim Stark.

But how much of that also was playing with guys like Danny Briere and a super down year/hurt Hartnell?

EDIT: Dont get me wrong. he played with Voracek alot, but cant the other way be said with Voracek playing with Giroux?

I didn't think he would get an 8+ figure but he did really out perform his last deal.

Look I love Giroux, he is the engine that makes this team go. We have not had a player like him maybe ever.

But I really wonder what type of impact he has on games EV especially in playoff type atmosphere.

Giroux's new contract means we'll have to cut a bunch of our depth now next season. Not good.

You lose Giroux though, we would become a team that tanks for a few years. 0% chance that happens.

voracek was clearly our best forward last year . When he was centered by Schenn , Schenn looked like he was oging ot have a breakout year and then when voracek got moved to G's line Schenn stopped producing.

If its between Giroux or Talbot, it's a pretty easy decision. Talbot is a luxury that can be easily replaced compared to Giroux.

Voracek's shooting % was out of this world. He had a very good season, I agree, but Giroux was consistenly the same last season with and without Voracek.

But seriously, what was our other option here? Let Giroux go?

What if next year the cap rises to $75 million.

This is a good deal for both sides. Giroux is your franchise player. If the Clarksons of the world are getting 7 year, $6 million deals, Giroux is worth it. It's done.

I recall giroux being well below a ppg pace , one of the reasons voracek was moved tohis line.

15 games, 10 points. Not really well below....

33 games 38 points he finished.

Wasnt that big of a difference. Gotta remember though, Giroux also was playing with Briere who continuously brought down every line he was on.

That's .667 PPG. I'd say that is really well below a PPG (and a huge difference from the 1.15PPG in the other 33 games).

55 point pace versus a 94 point pace. That's pretty big difference (small sample size, though).

Anyway, I would've wished to see a 7, but I'm not surprised. Have to pay the man.

Danny Briere had 5 points in those 15 games....

Not taking into consideration hot streaks and such. Points arent that linear.

We truly arent arguing that Giroux isnt this team's best player right?

I havent debated Giroux with people since after his 2nd season so felt good to do it again .

Ahh last time I had to was where I had to defend him in the Carey Price for Giroux trade that so many people seemed set on on these forums.
