Grabovski on waivers

Alright just wondering what you guys think. Toronto put Grabovski on unconditional waivers today, think we'll pick him up??

If his off ice behavior doesn't concern Poile then yes take him. Absolutely.

I am assuming since he is still technically leafs property that we can't talk to him or his agent? Because id want to know if he was really opposed to coming here. If he is thinking he can make as miuch or more total money and control his destination if he's bought out he may be unhappy to be claimed. I would not want a 5.5 mil player with 4 years left on their deal who didn't want to be here

Best case scenario, he becomes a steady first line center. Worst case, hes SK part 2.

I'll be pissed if they don't try to make a claim for him. He'd be our best forward, leggy only has a year left on his deal, we have money from Gill, Erat, Kostitsyn, and he costs us nothing in a trade.

I'm still worried that he will be pissed if he's claimed. If he can get 4.5 on the ufa market then being claimed will cost him about 2 million a year net

Another thing to keep in mind, he was Kessel's Center for the last couple of years ... we don't exactly have a Kessel on our roster.

I think I'd pass on him.

He won't be claimed. They would have taken a 7th round pick for him and couldn't get anything. They probably would have taken salary back too. Nobody has been claimed so far in this process.

But yet I'm sure you'll be ready to fire poile if we end up with nobody.
The advantage of this situation is we don't have to bid on him. He's ours for the taking at his current contract. I have reservations about him, but if reports about briere signing with the Habs are true, then if we hope to add at center this is looking like our best shot rather than hoping for some future trade that may not even exist or a ufa that would likely cost more for less talent.

So? Why would you pass on a quality 29 year old center with a reasonable 5.5mil cap hit? I will be disappointed if Poile doesn't put a claim in.

I think we should take him. It'd be awesome to add him and two of briere, stalberg, mueller.

@arcticicehockey

Grabovski has scored more goals than Kopitar, Richards, Duchene, Datsyuk, Lecavalier, Berglund, Bergeron, Seguin, Eberle over last 3 yrs.

Leafs fan here. Just wanted to provide insight.
Grabo never played with Kessel. Actually, of all the years they were on the Leafs, I can't recall them ever even playing a shift together.
Grabovski's regular line was 2C with Kulemin and MacArthur.

I was going to say, I'm pretty sure Bozak was with Kessel and Lupul until Kadri this year.

I stand corrected and thanks for pointing that out...
aaawww ... so he's a head case, tbh, I really don't follow the East that much due to the fact I don't have Center Ice & most of the games are on during the Preds game time.

More insight.....

He's matured greatly and far from a headcase.
Honestly, on most nights, he was the hardest working player on the ice for the Leafs.

Never seen a player keep taking a beating like him and he will just come right back at you.

....and then this happened.

He also likes to score with his face.

That's completely false. He was misused in Toronto according to fans who watch them more than you are me. I have seem several several posts saying he rarely played on a line with Kessel.

Edit: NVM i see you have been swiftly corrected.

Grabovski would be very good for you guys. He's fast, disciplined, plays hard and plays both ends of the ice well. He's good for 50-60 points and can play in all situations. His only real downfalls are faceoffs and streakiness.

As for the post above mine, Grabovski was never misused in Toronto. He was sick this passed season and didn't play very well until the playoffs (stats lie). During the time that he was healthy he was utilized as a 2nd line center (which he is) and did a very good job of it. Also, no need to worry about character issues. The guy is great and seemed to be loved by teammates. He was an alternate captain on the Leafs for about a year and a half and captained the Belarusian National Team as well, just in case anyone needed convincing.

Please sign/claim him and don't let Detroit! The guy would absolutely eat Toronto alive if we played against him.

Your other leaf fans say he was misused. It's been repeated time after time on the leafs boards in talk about him.. But whatever

Some of our Pred bros make me scratch my head! We will pay Goose and Gill but not for a player of Grabo skill set? I don't care that he becomes our highest paid F ever! If he scores goals and helps us win than so what! We should jump on him and maybe one other F and get the season started! He is an upgrade over anyone we currently have! Put in the claim! Just doi it!
