You know what I mean 750 k more than what most had hoped for. We are paying a little extra for the last discount we got.

I know this will be an unpopular comment, most of mine are, but I think we should trade G. I love his playing style but 8.3 over 8 yrs is too much. I'm sure the Flyers wouls get our number one Dman plus a lot more. Just saying

I understand your thinking in theory but who replaces Giroux as the teams #1 center? Our Powerplay would suffer as Would our penalty kill. It's just not a move worth thinking about. Creates more holes than it fills.

You don't trade your 25 year old PPG center.

I kinda agree but there's no choice we had to give him whatever. It was up to G. But no matter what 8.3 is too much for giroux. I think we could get a future top center and dman for G. This is going to mess things up a lot unless cap goes up 4 mill. In which case it will be like nothing happened haha

8.25 per is slightly below market value for G.

It will mess up nothing. They have 10M coming off the cap next year, Schenn isn't going to get much of a raise if at all from his bonus enhanced cap hit, and Coots might add $1M or so at most.

did the cap go up or down, whats up with all these crazy contracts, if we keep overpaying people, we're not going to get over the hump, we had two guys signed to reasonable contracts, but i guess we traded them so we can overpay everyone else

Stamkos signed that 2 years ago. Different story.

Stamkos' contract ends when he's 26. G's ends when he's 34.

The more I think about it, the more I think the G contract could look very good after a couple years of the cap going up.

G didn't give us much of a hometown discount, but he doesn't need to. This contract will be fine in 3 years when the cap is $80-85M due to the bidding war for HNIC that is coming.

no one knows what the cap it going to be. Cap is determined by percentage of revenue.

I don't get how people don't get this. Compare Stamkos to G the last 2 years And Stamkos will get 9 + easily when he signs the same aged contract as G.

There's a new CBA that places a term limit on contracts. No more longer contracts to drive the price down.

The cap grew from 44M in 06-07 to 70.2M in 12-13 under the old percentages. That's an 8% growth rate in the worst economic conditions in 70 years. That's 81M in three years if it just stays status quo --- and there is a new Canadian TV deal soon.

I tend to agree with this. I'd rather use the money to build depth because I like the Boston model and LA model for winning Cups. Having a few people make a ton of money doesn't seem to work unless the players you have are superstars like Malkin, Crosby, Kane, Toews. It seems otherwise it just reduces the team's ability to get quality depth.

We should just collect the four 1st rounders as compensation.

I don't think $8.3 million is bad for Giroux at all. Sure, it would have been nice if he took a little bit of a discount, but he vastly outperformed his last contract, which was a steal for the Flyers. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think him signing for about a million above what most people wanted is that big of a deal. The cap will go up, and if G had gone to the open market, he probably would've signed for way more than $8.3 million.

I'm sure the guys handing out $60 million dollar contracts know what the cap is going to be within the next few years.

Sarcasm?

We just lived through a lockout because GM's couldn't keep their hands out of their pockets and overspent to the extent that the majority were financially strapped. What makes you think these twits have a better idea today than they did any year since 2005?
