Plus Ryder is younger and bigger.
Now lets compare in the playoffs, and for a second pretend ryder actually uses that size.

Strike number 2 for Bergevin. Can't wait to hear him explain this one.

All the people who said the Habs weren't going to get UFAs can suck it. You wanted a free agent, well you got one!

I can't wait to see Briere in a Habs jersey. What number will he wear?

Lots of guys are "effective players" and don't carry a 4 mil cap hit!

Not really, Briere is a shadow of his former self and a fair bit older. Unless he suddenly pulls a Cole next season it will be seen as a bad signing.

Trade DD or Gionta NOW....no choice in my books.
Can't have 5 giuys below 5'11" on your top 9 (Plek, DD, Brière, Gallagher, Gionta)

Ive been calling for a while for DD to isle for Martin....Get some cap space back too!!

VERY happy about this. People will eat crow sooner than later. Briere is a gamer when games count the most. He's fiesty and never gives up on a play. Most interesting thing though; he has a lot of things to prove.

Once again..Briere had less even strength points per 60 minutes for the past two years than anyone in the Habs top 9 for the last two years. And this is in a player who is a garbage defensively.

I really have to question the Habs management right now. This reeks of signing a Quebecois player for the sake of signing a Quebecois player.

It's a high risk/reward type situation. If Briere can find his form we've more than compensated for Ryder who was invisible even if he scored a hat-trick; we would be golden and repeat our success next year. I am starting to warm up to it a little bit even now.

Oh and someone needs to update the hobbits pic.

He's still capable of being an effective player. I'll wait and see what he does before criticizing.

I have a weird sense that there is a deal for DD to go to Colorado. Roy likes him a lot.

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 52s
Habs GM Marc Bergevin reached out to Flyers GM Paul Holmgren to get feedback on Briere. Holmgren had nothing but great things to say

"Thanks for snagging Lecavalier, *******," Bergevin added.

I dont mind this trade. It becomes evident that either DD or Gionta are on the way out. He is an improvement to our top 6 and is clutch come playoff time (something we havent really seen much of around these parts).

Just wait and see what comes next before you bash the move. No way Bergevin will have all three of these midgets in lineup all at once. DD or Gionta will be on their way out.

Its idiotic and embarrassing. Nothing about thus makes any sense. Bergevin preaches a need for size then signs the smallest ufa out there.
