What's everyone's thoughts on signing Grabovski? Obviously we wouldn't pay him $5.5mm/year but he's a 50 point/20-30 goal scoring center. Fast, skilled... is he not what Flames are looking for?

Why not? Sign Grabo AND Bozak, and then trade Stajan to Toronto for a 1st!!

Again?! Are you being serious when you say you want a 1st for Matt Stajan?! You'd be looking the area of a 3rd at most lol.

Trade him for a 1st what? Because it's not going to be a draft pick, that's for sure.

They'll be so desperate for a centre on the Kessel line (when we sign Grabo and Bozak) that they'll have no choice but to give up a first rounder!!

Let me have this. I've had to watch the Leafs fleece the Flames before and now its their turn to pay!!

:gone-crazy:

Whoa, I just saw the Bob McKenzie tweet about Burke being sighted in Calgary. Could be something there...

Before anyone gets too excited:

If there are Brian Burke sightings in CGY, relax, he's not there for Flames' job. His daughter just moved to CGY and he's there with her.

Yes, his production last season wasn't due to a lack of work ethic, Grabovski would be #1 FA target... I do also like Bozak, good playmaker/good faceoff man/solid defensively, not at the $$ level that has been reported though (+$5m).

Is she going to be running the Flames?

With how little space the Red Wings have now, maybe we can squeeze out Nyquist or Smith

They have absolutely no space, especially if they're considering Brunner to round out the top 6. I think we could trade Stempniak, eat some space, and then land Nyquist

No they won't. No team is going to give up a top prospect in that situation. None.

They also have 2.3 million in space on a 22 man roster with 3.5 million in a bonus cushion they can use. So that's 5.8 million to spend, and if they do sign Smith, Nyqvist, Andersson and Brunner at least 3 players will be be removed from the roster so that will free up an additional 1.7 million, 2.3 if they go with a 22 man roster.

How much salary do you think they need to shed to fit those 4 players? I think 7.5-8 million could be enough, if not the amount of salary they will need to shed is minimal.

Not nearly dire enough to trade one of their top prospects for cap relief.

Any chance Glencross would waive his NMC for a team a little closer to competing?

Any chnce you guys would be interested in something based around Glencross for Rundblad.

Thinking he might look good in Phoenix's top six. Perhaps with Ribeiro feeding him pucks and Shane Doan riding shot gun.

Seems unlikely.

Quote:
After all, three agents confirmed Monday that, given the slim pickings of the UFA market, the 24-goal scorer likely left between $500,000 and $1 million annually to stay in Stampede City.

. . .

Branding cows on the weekend and out in the pasture Monday morning when contacted by King, Glencross is a Saskatchewan native who is as Albertan as anyone the Flames have ever employed. How many other players have spent their summers helping pals out on the chuckwagon circuit and living out of a trailer?
In any case, I'd also pass on a Rundblad for Glencross swap. Assuming Glencross was willing to waive, I'd want Gormley.

There is a belief that when Glencross negotiated his current contract that it was directly with Ken King because he wanted an assurance from ownership that he would never be asked to waive his NMC.

It is possible but we would ask for the moon for him and Runblad isn't it.

The Flames should just sign him in order to trade Cammy
