Agree. We clearly had a size problem. By adding Briere, even if we move Gionta or DD we're just going back to still having a size problem. I'll be patient and see what else happens this summer but MB is making it difficult to keep the faith.

He is old, and declining, but he's still a skilled winger, on the right side. He will provide us with some depth. No issues with the signing, a bit pricey but nothing to cry over.

I'm hoping it doesn't end with Briere, but some of you guys need to freaking chill.
Just like we needed to chill after the gomez trade. Do you ever take a position on anything? Or is always wait and see. This deal makes no sense at all. It's not the end of the world, because it's only two years, but it does nothing to make the habs better.

This is a filler deal, team won't be good for 3-4 years.
I'm not sure if Cole won't be a better player for those 2 years. He certainly fills more of a need than Briere.

Honest question here : Would you rather have untalented big sized player for a multi years contract and get stuck with him in the line-up, Or would you rather have a small, talented veteran for a 2 yr contract knowing we wont win the cup in the next 2 yrs anyway?

no this is the worst signing in the history of the NHL, we should move the Canadiens to Arizona and nuke Montreal right now

Barf. $250k and 3 years more and we could have had Lecavalier.

Way to get bigger, Bergy.

some of you are such downers, 4 mill for a guy who is a proven producer is a steal, yes he may be on the downswing of his career, but he has produced every year up until he was injured last year. Stick him with eller and gally and he will be dynamite.

I'll take Door #3: Invest good money in a guy like Clarkson who has youth, size and talent.

Two years ago Leblanc scored about as much (during the regular season) per 60 minutes than Briere has in the last two years, and this was on a horrible team.

We'd be better giving Leblanc a shot, since he can't be any worse defensively.

Glad it's a short contract (no pun intended).

What's the next move though. Definitely feels like we're waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Pleks to VAN for Edler + J.Subban?

The only logic I see behind this deal is to help immediately and at the trade deadline, send him to a contender for picks. Briere can be traded to a contender easily.

Play a cone with a stick in front of the net and give it Eller and Gally and it'll be dynamite.

I REALLY dislike Briere and cannot stand the idea of him wearing a Habs sweater... also thought the Kristo trade was a bad move.

Didn't say I liked it. But be honest -- it's like seeing the approaching tornado and wondering what tomorrow's headlines will be. It's a spectacle waiting to happen.

Except I'm hoping Bergevin doesn't do 'spectacle.'

I'm okay with this for the sole reason of laughing at the massive overreaction from everyone.

Well today the habs are better than yesterday, and Bergevin will make other moves. Is he THE guy? hell no. But at least they added much needed offensive output. And in 2 years he'll be gone, and then the timing will be perfect to be true contenders.
