Who are you going to get for 3.5 mil realistically? I like Clarkson but no idea what he's going to ask for.

I think MB should trade Gionta and Plekanec and try to get one good RW or LW with size that can play on the first line.
With Galchenyuk, Eller, Briere and Desharnais, we have a good fit for the playoff.
We have 2 big centers with skills to play on the first and third line. We have 2 smalls center that could have 2 linemates with size on the second line. The other would play on the first or third line depending on how we want to balance the line.

With Pacioretty and Bourque we have 2 players with size. Add one more with the trade and we are almost there.

I expect Louis Leblanc to play on the 3rd line with Eller and Desharnais.

So to me it would be:
first: the new guy Galchenyuk Gallagher
second: Pacioretty Briere Bourque
third: Leblanc Eller Desharnais
fourth: Prust White Moen

Yes and no. Completely different styles but obviously some size is always nice. End of the day though, talent scores goals, size is a tool to aid that talent. Without talent, size doesn't do much. So trading these guys is fine, I'd trade them all, but it would be to make space for an upgrade I hope.

Guys, stop with that whole 'trade DD, problem solved'.

Our GM played hard with everybody since taking the job except for Price, DD and Bouillon. He's not gonna trade these guys any time soon.

My guess is that Eller is gone.

With any luck both but I'm sure Gionta will stay till the end of his contract and DD is here for life

I don't think we need to trade anyone really.

It might be possible as the season progresses he'll cut those who are slowing down the team, that simple.

That would be the dumbest move to make.

Desharnais & Bouillon are slowing the team. Both were extended.

before: no one will be traded
after: only if canadiens are not doing well DD and Gionta (healty) both leave.

yup =/, but thats the only way his signing makes any sense. trading DD so briere can replace him doesnt accomplish anything, having him replace ryder as a winger makes a bit of sense but hes not the type of player that we need.. and its obvious by how we drafted that were trying to head in a different direction

anywho im probably just over-analysing this too much, he'll probably just end up playing on the wing as ryder's replacement.

Boullion barely plays and Desharnais wasn't slowing down the team over a full season was he?

It's easy to take 40 something games instead of the 120 when he looked fine.

We'll see what happens when he plays a real full season again. If he doesn't perform, then ship him out. I just think it's very convenient to say he's done based on a half season...unless of course you want to go on record to say kunitz is a superstar talent based on his last season?

If one was to go, it's gonna be Gionta. No doubt in my mind.

MB signed DD. He wouldn't get rid of him so soon.

People complained about Briere being injury-prone lately. Well, guess what's been happening with Gionta?

The only one who played the whole season was DD...surprisingly, unless he played through minor injuries.

It's normal though, small guys take a beating and on final parts of their career it's hard to be as healthy. I hope they have some gas left or we're ****ed.

Brian Gionta is good as a captain.
David Desharnais will have a bounce back season....so I really do not want to see the habs trade for a bag of pucks and watch the 2 have a good season.
Yes I know we need more size but that will not happen in just 1 year...it will take.

Adding to this, no need to trade them when value is low. If we do indeed are looking for a different element to our team, we won't get it in return if we trade them at their low points.

you guys think that Bergevin is going to trade Desharnais after giving him that contract???

doesn't look good on Bergevin's part....and his bosses would notice.

he would have to be overwhelmed to move him I'm afraid....

Eller was our best center last season, he is also young, big and not expensive. A Gm's job is to build the best team possible not trying to be cute and keep a useless player because he just got an extension.

The last time people complained so much about our size, we ended-up in conference finals...

Eller just got his face caved in. Injury prone. His value is probably at its highest. Trade him while he's on a cheap contract. You know the drill.

I'm half joking, of course. But I'd be surprised if DD is traded, to be honest.

Id be surprised too and I highly doubt it will happen but if we have to choose, DD is the odd man out.

I'd Rather see Gionta go because of the cap relief, even if he doesn't net much of a return he will free up tons of space for MB to use. Either player being dealt is a good option in my opinion, but ideally I would like DD to move to wing and Gionta to leave via retirement/trade.

Nothing but respect for Gio but he's a huge hindrance on our team, cap wise, health wise, and size wise. Keeping him after this contract ends would be a colossal mistake. He simply is taking a roster spot from young guys who are ready to play.
