Meh minimal risk. Always fun to gamble on struggling talent with something to prove. Were we worse off than yesterday? Don't think so. So can't complain much

I voted Yes. At first I was not pleased, but after finding out that Clowe turned us away, Horton is a for sure no as he is coveting a smaller market for his next stop, Clarkson wants 6mil and term I feel it's a pretty good pickup.

Briere is a great mentor for younger kids and is a playoff beast. This also let's us trade DD if opportunity presents itself. Granted he's old, but we only have him for two years and 4mil per is a fine cap hit for a player of that caliber.

Who knows, if things go well for Danny this could buck the trend of Quebec talent avoiding Mtl.

Edit: Plus he is a proven playoff performer with a ppg int he playoffs over his career. What we need imo.
then prepare to be thoroughly disappointed...

he might still have 'it' in the playoffs though - if we get there

Thanks, I only said one cause i believe that is the most MB can move this offseason, my wish would be for all three of gio pleks and dd to move, although pleks does give us the most value outta those three so i hope MB would field a good return for him if he is traded

I voted "No" because IMHO (like habs03) we already had to move a smurf, either Gionta or DD; and now we have to move both Gionta and DD, and I think that's a tall order.

Tall order.

It depends what are MB`s next moves during free agency. If this is only significant move, we are *******

Yes and here's why....

-The guy is clutch
-High profile french canadian wanted to play in MTL shuts up the french media for this year. He might be extra motivated to play for his childhood team
-its 2 freakin years
-Reasonable price for a player of his caliber
-its 2 freakin years
-adds depth to our top 6. We wouldnt get a better player through free agency
-its 2 freakin years

Now lets isolate this signing with the rest of Bergevin off-season moves. If that ends up being the lonely moves that he makes....yeah ill be pissed off and wont like this move so much but for the time being, as this is July 5th and the season starts in early October, yes I like the signing of Briere.

Yes short term, played alot of hockey ( obviously his best behind him) do not really like the price but again its not long. Hope that MB has something eles planned , but I think not unfortunately. And I also think Plecanec should go nowhere

I WANT to believe he's gonna work out great for us and score 25 goals at least

but i could just as easily see him producing scarcely and getting a couple injuries thruout the year

were just gonna have to wait and see, hopefully it works out for him and the team

Would I have done it? Probably not.

But I'm not going to hate on it until I see it.

Say What? All these so-called “experts” and pro talent evaluators and this is the best they can do?

I don’t like this move at all. Briere is older than Gomez and puts up similar numbers (2012-2013). Also, just as they did with Gomez, the Canadiens will give this “new kid on the block” every chance to succeed. This translates to less playing minutes for guys like Desharnais and Eller.

Season Name Age Height Weight Games G A Points +/- PIM
2012-13 S.Gomez 33 5.11” 198 39 2 13 15 -10 22
2012-13 D.Briere 35 5.10” 179 34 6 10 16 -13 10

Playoff games motivates him.

Playing for the Habs motivates him.

Nice to hear him say he wants to play here unlike j/o Lecavalierette

those stats are scary for us. I know he was playing a bit injured bla bla bla but still arent most players injured some? He played 34 games and did nothing. and he is now older, hope he can bounce back of course but not holding my breath.

we should just have stayed put and continued to build from within.

I don't think you needed to make a poll to know most are displeased with this move.
A better poll would have been what does Briere need to do in order for this deal to be a good one.

As for the question, I'm pretty neutral. Not really pleased as we all wanted more size, but not displeased because we did need depth up front and he's a righty that can also fill in as a center.

Debated adding that but then figured too many people would vote that just at the thought of DD leaving MTL, even people who have a small dislike towards Briere (like myself). That's why I added 'do you think you will be happy' to the Q...if you think DD will get traded then there's your answer to this poll.

I voted No. Not a good fit on already too small team. Been better fit with bigger club. And better fit for us if we acquired a bigger player.

A big NO! Yes, I'm from the 'size wins cup', 'getting bigger' camp.
