Damien Brunner

Now that Brunner decided to test FA with already having an offer from Detroit where do you think he goes? Does he stick with Detroit or will he end up chasing the money?

If I'm Dallas I'd easily offer 3.5-4m for three years.

Serious overpayment for a player that has only 44 games at the NHL level, 3 year $9m is the most i would pay for him but of course stupid teams will gladly overpay for a player of his calibre and potential.

I don't know why but in my gut I have felt for the past couple months if he tests FA that Anaheim will be the team to throw a bunch of money at him.

Pretty sure he will be back in Detroit. I think what own going on is he and his agent are establishing his value via free agent offers to bring a number back to Holland. It's kind of a unique situation where is pretty hard to put a value on him after one shortened season.

I always thought he'd be a good fit in Vancouver, don't think we can afford him though.

Winnipeg is looking for a player exactly like him to play with Kane, I'm sure Chevy has already talked to his agent.

I'd like him back in Detroit, but not the end of the world if he goes elsewhere.

Dito, of course that would mean that I want some good forward out of free agent as a replacement.

I am thinking Calgary. If true, they are said to be signing Raymond and Bozak. Brunner RWs that line and you are ready to roll!

Almost everything in your post doesn't make sense. Brunner really isn't what Ducks are looking for plus Bob Murray doesn't throw money around in free agency.

Most likely Koivu and Selanne sign for one more year, And then there would'nt be a need for Brunner Anaheim would be set at the Wing position.

Roll in the money? Cause that line would be a joke to watch

I'd want San Jose to sign him but with Havlat unbuyoutable that might not work

Yeah, good joke.

Overpay to keep Ericsson, let Brunner walk. Vintage Ken Holland logic right there.

That will be a painful rebuild if true.

A fast second line? It might work. I am really getting at how dynamic Feaster is being, if the rumors are true. Plus, Calgary rolls the dice. They spent large on Cervenka, for example. They seem like the kind of outfit that would go for it in the "frenzy". They do not have relaxed and urbane MacTavish, they have spits when he talks Feaster, they aren't going to smooth talk some team in a trade. FA is it for them! RWs with upside in this year's FA pool are few, I count eight. The rest are old, or slow or checkers. Bozak and Raymond are top ten guys in FA at their positions, Brunner is the obvious RW choice unless you want a lumbering guy.

This I agree with. Brunner is small and a liability defensively.

From a Wings fan perspective honestly, he has room to grow but it's outstanding that he had shown the ability to still learn at the age of 26. Normally players can be stuck in their ways at this age, and they're pretty hard to mold off of their style. Brunner came into the NHL this season and was absolutely horrible on the backcheck and defensive parts of the game. It was non-existent. I can tell you at the end of the season he was throwing his body around (not that he's huge) and actually attempting to cover his man within the defensive zone.

Take it for what it is; he was in his first NHL season in which he had to adjust not only to the heightened levels of physicality, but timing and space. The smaller ice made for a rough transition as it normally does to oversea players. He was used to no more than 3 hour bus rides, and the schedule of that of a shortened season. He played pretty impressive for having to travel across the nation via the Wings Western schedule. Not only that but he had played ~20-25 games with Zetterberg in the SEL before crossing over into the NHL season. In the end, he played numerous more games than he's used to, traveled way further than he's used to, played in a smaller and more physical league but still did pretty good. Now that he's used to the league, he can more specifically tone his skills during the off-season. I really think he'll be a good player in this league and I can only hope that Holland tries his best to hang on to him. To whomever does infact get him, I think he'll do very good things.
