Nice work, but this tread is not needed. We are the Washington Capitals and GMGM will be sitting on his hands all day today. He is happy with his team even if we don't have 2C or top 4 D. Enjoy your Friday because will not be doing **** today.

We're fine. We believe in our group of players and our young core of players. Don't expect something for today.

I can't wait to see what our annual dumpster dive gets us this year. I can at least dream that we get Grabovski. I wish we could get rid of the Tire Changer and and use that cap space for a a 2C or a LD.

Call me crazy, but GMGM is at his best when the moves are off the radar. As the Caps have basically been incredibly absent from all of the discussion (save the one Oates meeting with VL), I am going to go out on a limb and suggest the Caps will be semi-active today.

title updated, I was thinking of just having the title as No Signing Day but I think this works.

Also, the Caps signing someone would make my Friday a lot better, physiotherapy on my ankle at 3 :/

We will have about 5 million in cap after Alzner and Mojo are signed. And we need a 2C and #3-4 Dman, you don't think he knows this?

Better Title would be "Free Agent Frenzy 2013 -- Be prepared to be disappointed"

As that is how we will all feel by Sunday evening, and the Crappy GM we have does nothing.

Look at Boston. Now THAT is a GM.

If nothing happens, then you arent allowed to post. Hows that sound? You're one of the GMGM defenders, so of course you are backing him up.

In their history (yeah, all TIME), Caps have been out of the 2nd round.....2 whole times. Twice. I'm 43, been a caps fan since 1977. I am all out of excuses for Idiot Ted and Bumbling George.

However, lets show more patience!!!

4 teams in the mix for Mike Ribeiro. Capitals did not close the door. That does not mean he'll be back in Washington. #RDS

And I support GMGM to the point of making moves, he always has done something to try and improve. We aren't scouting non stop. We aren't behind the scenes, so what do we know goes on behind the scenes?

I'm usually excited today, but I just feel like it will be relatively uneventful, especially for Washington. My best hope is Grabovski, but with wedding I doubt he signs today(understandably).

You can't say that the last offseason he did something to try and improve this team. He made the team worse really.

I actually agree with GMGM here. I would much rather use ou caps pace to lock up Alzner long term than go after anyone in this years UFA class.

I just don't see any of the centers available being great moves. I feel like anyone you sign is going to be a contract you regret in a few years. Maybe if the Caps were a solid 2nd line center away from a cup I could handle that, but does anyone really think that is true? If Kuznetsov is going to be a NHL center (which is what we are being told) and he is going to be here next year (which is what we are being told) then I think it is smart to suck it up and wait a year. It sucks, but its smart.

As for defense. Again nothing excites me. I would rather let Orlov come up and see what he can do than bring in a mid 30's player who quality cup contending teams have litttle interest in bringing back.

If I was GMGM this is what I would do...

1. Buy out Shultz (check)
2. Let Ribeiro walk (sucks, but the contract wouldn't make sense)
3. Let Hendricks walk (sucks even more but the $$$ for role we have for him doesn't work)
4. Keep Tom Wilson in Jr's (does no good to have him playing only 10 minutes per night when he can be playing 20 in Jr's.)
5. Replace Erskine with Orlov
6. Pray Kuznetsov actully does come over next yer.

I think he would be the best player we could sign. Simply because I see him not only as a solid 2nd line player but also as a player who can transition to a good 3rd line player as gets older. Could be a good transition as Kuznetsov comes over to take over the 2nd line center spot (assuming he is a center like we are being told).

All that being said. He is worth about 3.5 million per. However, he is prob going to get around 4.5+ per. Which sucks.

As others have said, his tendency to drool over his own prospects is a flaw of his. He fills holes with whatever he can but as a priority, leaves his largely drafted core intact, even if they are bad fits. Sarge a bad fit out of his own mouth preaching mobility among dmen, finally gets moved... for nothing. He should have moved @plusfiddy for a kings ransom.

Yes the top free agents are costly and we know with Ovi's hit etc we will not land the big fish. He should focus more on roster trades, not mortgages of the future, nor solely single tier II UFA adds, and dumpster dives.

Outside of Ovi Erskine and a few others clearly giving their all, Caps games far too often look like good will exhibition matches. I have a little theory, that nothing motivates a player like thinking he may be traded and it appears to me all in the room do not fear GM, and thus do not fear the coach.

Building from the draft is great but when those drafted get costly and it does not lead to at least a cup visit, it is a major failure.
