Already talk of offer sheets

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 6m
Another interesting angle: will there be offer sheets on RFAs. With cap going down, inability to hide $ in minors, teams may be vulnerable.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 38s
@TSNBobMcKenzie. Already talk of offer sheets among teams with space. Pietrangelo, Bogosian, Little, Bailey, Henrique, Hamonic...

And which of those teams hid any money in the minors? Don't see the vulnerability.

Interesting timing now that it's announced the Leafs have 25mil of "space". I hated the lockout, but the new CBA has brought the best offseason ever!!!!

Dreger seems to be talking out of his ass.

Isles have like, $30 million in available cap space--there is 0% chance the Isles wouldn't be able to match.

Which team faces the biggest problems?

Dave Nonis is not Brian Burke. He would offer sheet players but going for Pietrangelo is a waste of time and a loss of cap space for a week.

This "vulnerability" only applies to teams that are really tight against the cap. Who are the RFA's for these teams?

Yes, let's try to jam WPG and NYI and offer sheet players from the 2 teams with the most cap space, they won't match...

Don't tempt fate. That ellipsis at the end implies that he heard about offer sheets to those guys and more.

It's funny because of all the prized RFAs out there, you'd think the Rangers would be the biggest target simply because they have quite a few to sign. They have enough space but a bloated offer sheet can really screw with their plans.

Devils have already said they'd match any offer sheet to Henrique btw.

All those players are on teams that are well below the cap so what does the cap going down or inability to hide money have anything to do with rfa offersheets this year as opposed to others?

I feel Bernier will get an Offersheet from the Flyers.

Something stupid and low, and the Leafs will match.

The only way I see this happening is if St Louis does go get a Weiss or Ribs. They will have to shell out 5+ million for them. Leaving them with 7-8 million. A team could then come in and offer 8-9 million for Petro. St Louis would then have to make moves to get cap compliant and still sign Chris Stewart.

The point was that if a team needs to create cap space to match an offer sheet, they won't be able to do so by burying a contract in the minors. Everything penny above $900k or so goes against the NHL cap.

cap space..

can't buy out Richards at this point so an offer sheet of ~4-5M for either McDonaugh or Stepan will really put the Rangers in a bind. I think they'd sign it.. but wouldn't be surprised if another RFA is moved because of it.

We'd just move Stewart. It's like people think Armstrong is an idiot. He wouldn't have traded for Bouwmeester and attempt to sign a center if he didn't think he'd still have room to slightly or even more than slightly overpay for Pietrangelo.

With Rattie and Jaskin, we can easily move a winger to free even more cap space.

It would seriously **** with us. Then again I would feel bad for the GM who threw any of our players an offersheet. Sather is a vindictive SOB.

Was a goon on the ice you know.
Made his way in front of the net without getting permission.

I dont expect him to do it at this time. We are kind of full. 1 more goalie can be had through simple ufa or late pick.

I understand trades can be made, but with the team in such a tight squeeze then, they probably won't get value for them. It's a tough situation, but I don't think it comes to that honestly.
