Potential Landing Spots for Stastny

http://milehighsticking.com/2013/07/...-paul-stastny/

I feel like he's the odd man out here and he could bring back a pretty decent package. The only way he's not is if they wait until they can trade ROR, then re-sign him at a steep discount.

I know we want to evaluate Stastny on this team before deciding what to do with him.

Problem is, if we wait too long, the types of return we'll get as the season progresses becomes more and more, a rental type return. Prospect + pick.

There will less and less opportunity for a "hockey trade" the longer we wait.

It's been a while since STastny had really good teammates. I'm interested to see what we can do. I hope we don't trade him, I'm in love with our top-9. It's awesome. I truly hope we can keep everyone after next season. Downie and Stastny will be UFAs and might be gone though.

Or we could get a player + pick if he does well enough, or another UFA skilled defender that won't re-sign or a better prospect + pick, or the really crazy part is he could do well and re-sign here.

I think people saying his return at the deadline will be less are dead wrong.

Not necessarily less, but different.

Now, he might get a top pairing (or at least a very good #3) D.
At the deadline, he'll fetch picks/prospects.

This is a little what Im worried about. I don't want to go for another UFA. At this point, im hoping the avs go for a solution to the first pairing. A UFA could end up just being an Anderson for Elliott swap where we have nothing to show for it.

I just think its going to get harder and harder to acquire a defenseman who can step in right away the longer we wait for the trade. Now, the avs may not trade him at all, or be thinking of moving ROR. Im also not advocating that we rush to trade him.

I just have a concern that regardless of how differently stas plays this year (good or bad) the TYPE of return will change, rather than the quality of it.

Traded today, I believe theres more opportunity for a hockey trade.
Traded closer to the deadline, I believe its more of a futures trade.

Oh well, lets just all hope the best possible outcome happens.

Agreed. Very annoying.

Although I do expect him and ROR to be moved. It just won't be as quick as the HF boardies want in Staz's case. He won't be moved until Mac is ready for the 2nd line.

Not going to re-sign Stastny at $6M/year and be able get him these magical teammates that people think he should be paired with.

I see him taking $4M/$4.5M per year, and he's going to choose which team he wants to play with.

With the MacKinnon pick I think the writing's on the wall that either Stastny or ROR are gone, and possibly both.
