More on the Alfie front:

Expectation is Alfredsson will go to DET. Since he's 35+ player, base salary likely in $3.5M range with bonuses taking it up to $5M

Toronto probably wouldn't want another dman back though, not if the rumors of them signing Scuderi are true. And Franson might be looking for more money than the Rangers can afford.

I don't know. To me, there's a difference between being traded and leaving as a FA.

He had a NMC though. So he was pretty much choosing his location

I don't see much of an upgrade from MDZ to Franson. If they move Del Zotto, they should be looking for young forward(s) +. Someone with high upside and who has size.

Revisiting Scuderi tweet from earlier. Now hearing he's likely going back to Pittsburgh. 3-4 years has been discussed. Around $3 mil per.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Clowe lures a 5 year term.

Dreger on a roll. Scuderi for that long is an awful deal. Same for Clowe.

Hearing Daniel Alfredsson 99% likely to join the Detroit Red Wings. One-year deal, heavy on bonuses that can be deferred to 2014-15.

Maybe they have a deal in place to move Fleury? Maybe they don't expect to re-sign Orpik?

The point isn't to get an upgrade. We have a lot of LH dmen. Franson is RH. Even if it's a totally lateral move in terms of talent/ability, it's still a win for us IMO because it balances out our pairings and gives us a RH shot on the point.

But like I said, I doubt toronto would do it.

I don't think it's a lateral move though.

Re-signing Cally, who has a year left on his deal, isn't a priority right now. There are much more important contracts to deal with.

I agree with Viper, moving MDZ for Franson is a horrendous move.
