400K? It doesn't make sense to save that. We might never use a compliance buyout, but you need to keep options open. 400k is nothing.

I'm starting to get a little worried they think after signing UFA's we will need all our cap space

Belanger was completely underwhelming. He wins faceoffs but we forgot to check whether he knows how to play hockey.

If only we can retain Belanger's faceoff ability and give it to RNH or Gagner, that would solve A LOT of problems.

Boyd Gordon doesnt bodycheck enough to be an effective 4th line center for the current roster.. unless he gets a huge supporting cast.. then maybe

I'm beginning to think we will do absolutely nothing and I was so sure we would see some change.

It makes zero sense to use a compliance buyout for that little savings.

If MacT used a compliance buyout on this it would be a horrible move. He seems to be too smart for that and has done pretty well so far. I think it's a regular buyout.

FWIW NHL.com does not have Belanger listed as a compliance buyout.

I think the spirit of Belanger still dwells within the ice of Rexall and if Boyd Gordon steps on the ice... the same fate will befall him.

Just say no to Gordon if you don't want Belanger 2.0.

Literally every single point in this post was wrong. Lol.

I hope NHL.com is correct, but CapGeek.com and the Edmonton Journal both have him as a compliance buyout. =\

Also, apparently Belanger is supposed to be on the panel for RDS tomorrow but now that he will be looking for a job, who knows. If he still is, I'm sure he'll do his best to deflect blame away from himself for his ****** play.

And now, perhaps for one final time, here is Steve Tambellini explaining why Belanger wanted that third year on his contract: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-wK06CSHHY#t=13m59s

No idea why they wasted a compliance buyout on this contract. Glad he's gone, but this was a poor decision by MacT, imo. Unless he's planning on being right at the cap next season, which doesn't look too likely right now.

A compliance buyout does seem wasteful but I don't think they have any buyout targets left now that Horcoff and Belanger are gone.

It's only a waste if we need two compliance buyouts for next year. Unless signings we make this season end up being huge busts, I can't really see any contracts that we'd have to buy out. Worst case scenario we'd still have one compliance buyout left - the other one is honestly probably best spent on Belanger.

Exactly.

I will remember Belanger as an all time waste of time. Adios.
