WHY GILBERT??????????????? I don't get it. Move on folks. He didn't work here. Ference brings leadership and grit. We need winners not losers.

I like the player and $ quite a bit; term is a little long, but it's not the end of the world.

You don't sign bottom of the lineup players to term

Did we not learn from Belanger and Eager?

Ference equivalents will be available tomorrow for 1 year deals

Fitness/nutrition freak. Speculation obviously but that could lead to him having a longer shelf life than most. Either way the contract seems very tradable if we have to dump him at some point.

Very happy with this signing. Our D could look very different next season already (Feremce, kelfbom, Belov, Larsen)

A few upset posters on CP.

I guess Ference used to post there under the username: Okotoker before he was dealt from Calgry.

Nice!

Sign Gilbert too.

Smid-Petry
Ference-Schultz
Schultz-Gilbert
Belov

Now that's a legit NHL D... not cup contending, but able to sniff the playoffs.

I hope this means we never have to see Potter play another game for us.

He's an extremely high character guy, a workout warrior and one of the most philanthropic NHLers.

Here's a link to his diary when he went to Africa with "Right To Play."

Except he'll be playing on the second pairing, so your worries are invalid.

Nice number for sure. There's one Vet D with plenty of meaningful experience.

Great pickup. Wish it was 3 years but Ference is a solid dman and is so classy. Good move.

Agreed. Happy with this signing. Not too concerned about the years. Better than signing a goalie at 36 years of age to a 4 year deal (Khabibulin)

Good signing. I wasn't expecting him to actually sign here, but I am pleased I was wrong.

Different, yes, but not much better at this point. I don't see Ference as much of an upgrade over what we already have. Hopefully MacT has another move in mind for our back-end.

Look at Travis Hammonic compared to the Islanders as a team, and tell me you don't want Hammonic on your team. These "stats" can't tell the whole story.
