I don't think that Detroit will be an overly competitive team in the east. I don't think they have the offense to do it. Who knows why he's leaving Ottawa...but if it were to go to a 'contender' he didn't pick a great one.
They mentioned Boston originally, that would have been a better fit IMO
Gonna be a whole new league next year, expect to see different teams shuffling in and out of the playoffs.
That is exactly what I was thinking. Will be fun and interesting that is for sure. After the FA signings are over we should g=have a projections thread because there have been significant swings in talent.
looks like even with cap going down, salaries are still inflating
This just isn't true. Salaries, as a collective, are the same. The cap number is fixed. Everyone has the same amount to spend. If you give the guys at the top more, the guys at the bottom are simply going to have to take less. That's the gist of things. This reduction in cap is for one year. It's bound to go back up, and likely in a significant fashion. These contracts are long term. You can't not sign these guys to these deals because this one upcoming year things are going to be tight. If you miss a guy this year...you miss him forever. He signs for 5-7 years elsewhere.
The terms of the contracts are more alarming than the $ value of the contracts. Ultimately speaking, a guy whose salary is high relative to today's cap, is going to be significantly lower relative to the cap several years down the road.
