Even with Raanta on board, Blackhawks currently looking for a veteran backup for Corey Crawford to replace Emery.

What?

Also, Emery's deal is a $1.65M AAV, not $1.75M.
that's what he thinks, not what will happen.

Greiss to the Yotes... that would have been a vet backup I would have wanted. Could handle the job, knows his role and won't be a problem for Raanta.

I'm a bit surprised emery couldn't get more that 1.65. i wasn't expecting a big contract - but bigger than that.

I think he could have got more money from the Islanders but just liked the Philly situation better.

Nathan Horton gets $37.1-million over seven years from #CBJ -- $30 million in first five years.

$5.3M cap hit

7 years is a long time for a guy with injury concerns

They mentioned Boston originally, that would have been a better fit IMO

That is exactly what I was thinking. Will be fun and interesting that is for sure. After the FA signings are over we should g=have a projections thread because there have been significant swings in talent.

I'm way glad Columbus moved to the East. They're slowly shaping up into a decent team, and I expect that to continue with Kekkelainen at the helm.

Is there anyone here that would take Clarkson or Filpula were it possible? Bruner? If we had to move someone to make any of them happen, who would you move to make it happen?

Hmmm. Devils need anyone with a pulse to score for them though.

This just isn't true. Salaries, as a collective, are the same. The cap number is fixed. Everyone has the same amount to spend. If you give the guys at the top more, the guys at the bottom are simply going to have to take less. That's the gist of things. This reduction in cap is for one year. It's bound to go back up, and likely in a significant fashion. These contracts are long term. You can't not sign these guys to these deals because this one upcoming year things are going to be tight. If you miss a guy this year...you miss him forever. He signs for 5-7 years elsewhere.

The terms of the contracts are more alarming than the $ value of the contracts. Ultimately speaking, a guy whose salary is high relative to today's cap, is going to be significantly lower relative to the cap several years down the road.

Very random, but I was just browsing our salaries on Capgeek and holy crap does Keith have an awesome contract. I mean with Letang getting $7.25m, Keith at $5.53m is simply remarkable.
