This Montreal deal would almost make sense...

They needed to get rid of either Coburn or Mez for cap reasons

They want to give Laughton a roster spot because they believe he's gained all he can from playing in juniors

They open a spot for Laughton by moving Talbot (Hall-Laughton-Rinaldo)

Signing Gagne (likely) would mean Laughton has no spot on the 3rd line

I don't know about what they would be getting back from Montreal though.

I'm not saying this is something they should do, only that it would kinda fit based on their signings of Hall and (probably) Gagne.

Yea Brian Gionta will ruin the off season.

Dammit we couldn't match that Ryan offer?

Hopefully there's a decent defenseman coming back if we're sending Coburn to Montreal.

Guys don't put much stock in MTL media rumours. They're known for trolling with sourceless BS.

Only legit thing I've seen on Habs end is Montreal is interested in Coburn from M.A Gagnon & Martin McGuire.

Edit: and Lebrun would be a damn good source

Nervous about moving Coburn . If it is he and Talbot, better get a top offensive prospect on D.

Combine that with the Godin tweet and there's some traction here.

Also, if Gionta is included, I think it's cap reasons for both teams. Montreal replaces Gionta's hit with Coburn and Philly gets $4.5M off the books next year.

I agree. I'm not a fan of his cap hit with what we got already.

Wouldn't mind Gionta if he came back with a guy like Tinordi or Beaulieu. He's only got one year left, and if there's one thing he can still do, it's put the puck in the net about 25 times a year. I'm also not a huge Coburn guy and I think Talbot can be replaced by someone from within. If they're retaining some of Gionta's salary, then it becomes even more tempting.

getting Gionta makes little sense.
im guessing they do this deal to free up salary so they can free up some space to make a push for Shatty

Gionta is only signed for this coming season. He would have to be a dump in the deal with other goodies.

If they retained some of that salary I'd be interested. Gionta at $2.5 million isn't too bad. Something like Coburn and Tlabot for Beaulieu and Gionta? Keep Laughton and Beaulieu down for another year and roll with this (new players in bold):

...that's horrendously awful for Anaheim. You can't get Ryan for disposable parts, and they wanted forwards back (as the OTT return shows).

We could have matched the OTT offer by using a base of Couturier + a 1st and adding in a prospect--someone less than Laughton.

Like I said, I'm glad we weren't in on that.
