Lapierre has the pest ability of Shaw/Marchand just lacking the offense. He's better defensively and knows how to throw his weight around. Good signing. I'm a fan.

Nice price, and a player you love to hate, when he is against your team.

I really don't mind the signing.... just don't understand it at all. Armstrong says he isn't going to make a move to just make a move but it feels like he did just that.

Lapierre would be a good pickup if we had a need for a player like that but all I see this doing is causing a logjam in the bottom six.

There were probably doubts of Porter being a center for an entire season, which I agree with.

I disagree. I feel like he's a great addition to the fourth line. I don't see this as a move to make a move. He's a legitimate upgrade over what we had in that spot.

Exactly how I feel.

Why even bother signing Aucoin?

Lapierre solidifies the 4th line, and Aucoin is more of a short-term fill-in on any line.

But then why sign Aucoin before making a move for Lapierre? That's my question. Clearly aucoin was of bigger interest from Army or we would have seen a flip in the signings. Either that or Aucoin was getting interest from other teams.

Lapierre fits, I get that.

But how does Aucoin fit? Why did we need to sign him to a one way deal?

Depth. He's a different kind of player too.

my kind of player--always liked him, Ott, Prust, etc.--but not exactly sure how he fits in except pushing someone out of the bottom six.

Or maybe Aucoin signed first because he was that anxious to get signed by an NHL team.
Let's face it, the guy is an under-sized 4th liner who has spent a lot of his career bouncing between the NHL and AHL. And that is exactly where Aucoin "fits" for us. He's that injury reserve player who can play in the NHL or AHL just like Andrew Murray was last season.

As far as the 1-way aspect; that is irrelevant. All that means is we pay him the same rate in either League, and his salary isn't so big that we can't afford to bury him in Chicago.

Then why re-sign Porter?

The 4th line is going to be pretty awesome with LaPierre and Reaves, though.

At what point does a team have too much depth? Blues are borderline there.

Depends on if they get another center. If they don't, Sobotka goes to 3C and Porter to 4LW.

We have 14 forwards, that's what everyone has. We are either set or a trade is coming.

For arguments sake... I could see Chris Porter as a "3rd line emergency" player. Like a rich man's D'Agostini. Very good 4th liner who can play 3rd too.

so Lapierre coming in frees up Porter to be a Sobotka like contributer, capable of playing top 9 minutes instead of being shoe horned into a 4th pairing role?

I'm trying here.

Interesting pick up by Army, no doubt. If he pisses off the Hawks whenever we play them I'll be satisfied with this signing.

i hated this at first thougt... but the more i think about it the more i like it... Sobotka is an awesome 3rd line center... gritty... does all the little things right.... Porter-Lapierre-Reaves could be avery scary 4th line... a ton of speed in porter and lapierre and obvioulsy the reaves effect...

hopefully we make a trade for a top 6 center... maybe stastny if we can afford it... and i think our team will be more prepared to take on teams like LA in the playoffs... who knows...

I think we still have a playmaking gap, and hopefully it fills soon.

How many fourth lines does Army plan on having this year?

Not a fan of his style of play in Vancouver, but I'm also not sure if he played like that in Montreal. Does anyone remember?

Maybe he'll turn out to be a guy you just hate to play against?

Starting to think one of the CPR line is moving.

Having more 4th liners competing for ice time, means they go all out when they are on the ice.

No reason to move any of the CPR. You have CPR with L and A. The five will fight it out to see who sits in the press box. Also, injuries invariably happen and we will need the ability to move one of those 5 up.
