Thats a manageable contract. He definitely did not take a discount.

Leddy=the player forever known for not playing often in the Stanley Cup Finals.

People act like he is now Chris Campoli or something.

Leddy is a really good dman and has the potential to be the best on the Hawks. He is also the best defenseman on our crappy power play because his speed, ability to enter the zone, and not so terrible shot. Leddy and Patrick Kane are probably the two best zone entry players we have.

Unfortunate that this deal is only for two years because Leddy will likely be getting a big raise when this deal is done.

Was Leddy a bit rushed to the NHL? Probably. But he has also gotten better and better each year(pretty much by leaps and bounds) in the NHL, while we've seen other defenseman not really improve while in the AHL like Brendan Smith, Dylan Olsen, ect.

Bottom line is he is the 2nd best offensive defenseman on the Hawks and keeps improving each season. Just because he hit a rocky patch in the Cup Finals means he sucks? I guess Chara sucks too. He is young and Q has made stupid decisions in the past like benching Stalberg for Bollig so I don't buy much into him getting sat for a couple of high pressure games(considering he is 22).

I am happy the deal is under 3 mil but I wish it was longer term. I expect a big year from Leddy this upcoming season and he can play top 4 minutes with Oduya as 5th dman.

And he improved his D a lot this year. Q just didn't like how he looked vs B's and felt comfortable giving Hawks top 5 (Which is great group) more minutes

Leddy creates a lot of the offense that leads to his points. He is 2nd best Hawk (Behind Kane) at bringing puck into zone
How many playoff games has he been in as well? His D is horrible or else he would have been playing more than 3-5 minutes in the finals.

Thought he would sign for a bit less but I'm sure the Hawks can deal with it.

Surprised by the Leddy hate in this thread. He's a good young player and a great fit on the Hawks bottom pairing for the time being.

Apparently defensemen stop developing at 22. This board never ceases to amaze me.

The debate on Subban vs Keith depends on which Duncan Keith we're talking about. If it's 2010 or 2013 Keith, it's him. If it's the Keith in between, Subban is better. Keith admitted at the end of the first year post-cup that it was hard for him to get fully back into it, and it obviously showed in his play. He wasn't the Norris caliber guy again until this year. It will be interesting to see what Duncan Keith shows up next season.

Yeah you don't watch the Hawks much. Or know Q as a coach at all.

The impatience on this board between Leddy and Seguin is so frustrating. Don't perform in your first 3 years? Bust.

The difference is that the Chicago Blackhawks did not trade Nick Leddy.

Hawks fan saying i'm fine with his contract. I thought it would be 2yrs/2.5 aav. I'm not overly fussed it's more than that.

Chicago seems to have started a policy of preferring generosity re players it wants long term in favour of hard negotiations.

re the comments in regard to subban. i don't care. to be honest, i cringed at the way the habs negotiated w/ subban - i found it distasteful for a player they wanted to be part of their core. additionally, i thought it was economically dumb of them - which it will turn out to be.

on another note - most hawks fans are indifferent (or not *too* angry) about the contract. if it's not a big problem for hawks fans, why does anyone else care?

That's not my point though, they're both early 20's players with high ceilings that are being labelled as busts because this board can't think about anything but "what have you done for me lately". I don't think Boston gave up on Seguin, more just preferred having a player at a high skill level now instead of waiting for him to develop. He didn't fit their system anyway.

Nick Leddy, on the other hand, fits perfectly into the Hawks' transition game. He just needs to work on his defense and he's pretty much there.

Boston trading Seguin was very frustrating to me though, especially because now he has a chance to join Lehtonen in smearing the new division-rival Blackhawks all over the ice

The Boston Bruins traded their "party boy" while the Chicago Blackhawks kept their "party boy".

The Chicago Blackhawks slaughtered the Dallas Stars last season and will so again this upcoming season. Eriksson is so much better defensively than Seguin.
