Despise this guy but he is cheap and will be ok on 4th line. Do not see us picking up a top 6 player. Best option is trade involving Perron I would assume.

Problem is I thought the fourth line was already set, and that seemed to be the case from interviews. That means we're picking up fourth liners to play on our third line. Yay.

No it doesn't. Blues have depth.

I'll be honest I actually like this signing. I hated Lapierre because he's so annoying to play against. He'll hit you, trash talk you, get under your skin and then when you go after him he'll just smile at you with the huge ass grin.

He plays with an edge and is a great 4th-liner. I don't think he was a necessity, but he'll be useful in the playoffs for sure.

We just got tougher to play against.

Now the question is what Armstrong does next...We still need a top 6 center, so a trade definitely isn't out of the question.

Just making sure I have this right. (Ignore exactly who's where on the lines for now)

Schwartz-Backes-Oshie
Perron-Berglund-Tarasenko
Steen-Lapierre-Sobotka
Sobotka-Aucoin-Porter
Cracknell

are all on one way contracts. Same for

Bouwmeester
Shattenkirk
Jackman
Leopold
Cole
Polak

You also have Halak and Elliott as well. That makes 21 players and does not include Pietrangelo, Stewart, or Jake Allen.

I am one that believes there is still interest in someone like Grabovski or Roy, but if there isn't, that's 24 people and roster limit is 23 yes? There has to be a trade coming.

Allen to the AHL and possibly Aucoin as well if we make another signing. Yea we have to eat a little bit of extra cost on Aucoin while he's in the AHL but it's not like we are going to go through a season without some forwards getting banged up so the chances of him being called up for at least 1/4 to 1/2 of the season are pretty reasonable so it's not that bad.

You have Sobotka twice so it evens out anyway.

The Blues are not done people
This signing was a great signing if you think about every stanley cup team usually has a pest on it
ex. Shaw, Richards, Marchand
The Blues needed a guy like this
Excellent faceoffs
good speed
grit
and will fight if needed

you have to open your mind up a little and realize they werent gonna pay 5 mil for any1 out of house which sucks as a fan. I personally would have payed for Weiss and especially Val Flip...
However, you still have some studs out there like Brunner and Grabovski who i personally think are the Blues 2 prime candidates. We CANNOT go into next season with our overpaid captain as our first line C.

He's currently making less than Bozak... Think about that for a second.

Not a fan of his style of play in Vancouver, but I'm also not sure if he played like that in Montreal. Does anyone remember?

Maybe he'll turn out to be a guy you just hate to play against?

Starting to think one of the CPR line is moving.
Vancouver Lapierre is a much more disciplined Lapierre. Lapierre was a lot like Matt Cooke in MTL. Lapierre really cleaned up his act in Vancouver. Hard for him to lose a reputation, though.

the fact he is a worse version of Dustin Brown is enough said

hes not a first line center whether you want to believe it or not

yes a first line center can shut down the other team but look at Bergeron or toews...those are 1st line centers...

trust me when i say this.. you guys will love this guy.

when he first came to van i was infuriated, i thought i hated him.. and then i saw him skate and hit. such a shame van has traded away cory and now max - we have gotten much worse.

imo this guy is one of the best 4th line centers in the league (he can easily play on the third as well, has more than enough speed) and he couldn't have gone to a better team. all the crap about him being a weasel/snake is so overblown it's a joke. you'll see.

Whether hes a first line center or not is not what's being questioned here, it's whether hes overpaid. Backes has a ridiculous contract compared to the majority of these players in the league (ridiculous in a good way). If he was a FA this year, I could see him getting a million + more than what he is currently making. As I previously said, Bozak is currently making more than Backes.

I like this signing, assuming he's joining Reaves and Porter, that's pretty good size with speed.

I don't think they're done, but it is starting to look like a trade is a very big possibility. I'm very interested in what's coming next, there seems to be an urgency to win now.

I like this signing. A lot. All too often our players got little cheapshots from the opposition. Now we have someone that can initiate that kind of game rather than the Blues being in the position to have to retaliate. Give us a Roy and move Stewart for someone that will actually give an honest effort more than 3 games out of 4.

Again, you give Stewart NO CREDIT for losing weight in the off season and coming in as our leading goal scorer. Sure, Stewart did not show up as expected in the playoffs, but you can't lose a sense of proportion. Toews only had 3 goals in 23 games in the playoffs and had a substantially lower PPG than he normally does in the regular season.

And that's a good thing. The truth shall set you free on the GM comment!

Anyways, I guess Armstrong will be happy with 4 yes, 4th line centers on the forward lines as of right now

Before anyone calls me out on it, I realize Bozaks contract isn't more than Backes (it's 4.2 and I thought it was 4.9 AAV). My point still stands that it's a great contract though.

It's funny how people actually thought Cracknell-Porter-Reaves were going to play all 82 games. That was NEVER happening. 4th-line depth being added was a given.

I like Lapierre a lot. Not sure where Aucoin fits in now though.
