Most will agree the Stanley Cup playoffs were great hockey. Thornton played and contributed to the B's overall success. He didn't have to do his "goon" thing, thankfully because everyone decided to play hockey.

Let Parros do his thing, sit in the box, and let Eriksson, Bergy, Marchy, Krugie, David and Jarome do their thing. Love it.

Ottawa has Kassian: 6'4'', 235 lbs
Buffalo has Scott: 6'8'', 270 lbs

Thornton has yet to win a fight against any of those guys...

But he has!

If anyone is interested here is Thorton vs Parroshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvLsqnFEJ8A

Size isn't everything- skill, speed and scrappiness count. I am not saying he didn't have to really work for it but he has won against both Orr and Parros and I would say he fought Kassian to a draw in the one fight I recollect between those two.

215 lbs... lightweight who'd get floored by McLaren or Orr. Not an option.

I have ALWAYS agreed with Colt when it comes to this and I still do. Thornton is a heart and soul player. A good fighter with skill but compared to a lot of the guys listed he is small and also he is old. Its not fair at his age for people to expect him to always step in. McQuaid is good but has to get back to the fighter he was 2 years ago. Lucic doesn't fight as much as he used to and shouldn't. Chara only fights when it is provoked. Campbell is a bad fighter with lots of heart.

I don't see the big deal of signing a goon to a 2 way deal and dressing him during games when the other team will have a goon out there.

Some guys I wouldn't mind

Bissonette
Macgrattan
Asham
Macintyre

Maybe they can snag Bordeleau from the AVs

Colton Orr was mentioned above, he was re-signed by the Leafs this summer.

McGrattan just signed for 2 years with Calgary.

Bordeleau re-signed for 3 years with the Avs this summer.

Not sure what the status of MacIntyre is...

I think the kid Fraser is pretty tough and might get a spot out of camp on the fourth if CJ is willing to bump Paille up a line. Also, Mcquaid is nails. Add Lucic, Iginla, and Charas overall toughness and it should be enough. I'm actually a fan of Matt Fraser and think he'd be perfect as a tough kid that can also play wing at the NHL level, ala Clarkson from a few years back, before he blew up.

A guy I have always liked who would be good as a Providence signing, with the opportunity to play for Boston now and then, is Brandon Mashinter. Big, throws bombs, has good AHL and a bit of NHL experience. He played with Frazer McLaren in Worcester, they were quite a pair. I saw enough of them there to believe he'd be good in the ANHL tough guy role, know what I'm sayin'?

No illusions that he would skate a regular NHL shift, even on the 4th line, but he's the type of "organizational depth" tough guy I'd like to have in Providence. A much more realistic and effective option for spot NHL duty versus say Bobby Robbins. RFA in the Rangers system now.

Here he is against the champ, Ryan Reeves (j/k)

Robins did fight McLaren last year and did just fine.

Does anyone bother to research anything before posting anymore? (i.e. "Subban isn't eligible to play in the AHL this year.") So much drivel to go through on this board...

I don't consider Shawn a goon.

He plays hockey too.

Bobby Robbins is 31 years old and has never played in a NHL game. Why are we talking about Bobby Robbins?

....don't think the B's are worried. We're (Habs) still the softest team in the league.

Worrying about Montreal adding George Parros should be one of our last concerns this offseason.

Yet again Montreal tries to add a pure goon thinking it will counter the Bruins. What they need is an Evander Kane-like player, or even someone like Clarkson. The Bruins will just skate around whatever goon they bring in. The guys need to be able to play, guess Bergevin still hasn't gotten the memo.

Come on now - it worked out well before with George Laraque.

Just trying to look at the free agent list, and see the following names:

Jody Shelley
Darcy Hordichuk
Cam Janssen

Shelley is the only one with 'size' but he's pushing 40 too.

None of those guys are options. We might just have to call up Robbins if Thornton gets put down again. I love Thornton and it just makes me a little sad he can't finish his career fighting guys like Prust or Fraser, and instead is lined up against much bigger, younger guys with KO power.

Love Shelley, used to captain the Mooseheads here. Walked on to camp, found a spot and got an NHL career out of it. Over the hill, though. Can't really play. Don't really want the other guys either... Cupboard looks a tad bare. I'd also like to find a replacement for Thornton, might not be easy tho. He's Merlot.

anybody in the A that we could trade for?? Probably never should have got rid of McGrattan. Would have been a good plug for 15-20 games a season against teams with that type of fighter.

I just don't think we need to be getting into these staged fights. Colorado and Calgary games probably need it, we don't. Thornton especially doesn't need it considering what happened last time against Buffalo.

Spur of the moment fights is another matter, and we have McQuaid, Thornton, Lucic, Iginla, Campbell and even Chara occasionally for that.
