He's a hipcheck machine, unfortuantely ends up being called for good clean hits

I trust that this signing is good. Now we don't have to play Stoner in the 2nd pair and Prosser in the 3rd pair. Although I'm somewhat interested who is Yeo planning to pair Ballard with... Scandella is my guess, or the guy who we might get if we trade Setoguchi for a 2nd pairing guy (Niskanen for example).

I like the term, like the cap hit. Gives us much needed depth. Now, make Seto for Niskanen/Braun/Demers or something happen and our D doesn't look that bad.

Good signing.

the contract is fine, but unfortunately I don't think he'll be much help to be honest

Hopefully this is a system that fits in with his skills. Class act, best of luck Keith.

You can call me officially jealous, what a great signing.

Wanna trade him for Hunwick? Almost the same cap hit..

Thought he was going to sign a 1 year deal to prove himself. Bargain deal for Minny for getting the second year on that cap hit. I still think he's a top 4 material on most teams. Give him some freedom and pair him with a defensive guy.

Ballard finally getting paid what he is worth. Don't expect too much, this guy was out produced by Marty Brodeur the last two years.

Looking at this puck possession numbers, he's been pretty brutal throughout his career aside from one good year. Never noticed him much on the ice with the Vancouver games.

I think he's an upgrade on the bottom pairing in limited, sheltered minutes. But I get the feeling if he is going to play any kind of larger role it's going to be a big disappointment for Wild fans.

On the plus side, signing someone for cheap who has something to prove is a lot better than giving someone a huge contract who isn't motivated.

I'm hoping for the best, but really all this did is bump Clayton Stoner from #5 to #6 defenseman, and the Wild still have two big question marks on the second pairing in Spurgeon and Scandella.

I will be curious if the Yeo 'system' will work for him. Because there isn't one with him I think the contract is serviceable for what his value is.

I think many of you are forgetting what this guy brought to the table prior to being moved to Vancouver. He didn't work out for the Canucks but if he can regain anywhere close to prior form, he was signed at a great salary.

great signing for the Wild, Ballard has talent just needs to back home! Always was a huge fan of his and for the price the Wild got him I think he can easily settle in without pressure and be a solid contributor. Good luck Ballard as I think you will bounce back strongly this season.
