And I can tell you with some certainty that fans in Pittsburgh and New York are much much worse in general.
it does come in handy, that reputation, going to away games. nobody screws with you. They actually kiss your ass. and you know you always gotta represent when you walk into that other building.

If you really want a good watch, and are thinking of becoming a Flyers fan, go through Youtube videos of the 2004 and 2010 playoff runs.

Absolutely magical stuff.

Washington is like that little brother that wants attention and wants to be up there with the big guys on the east coast (ala Philly, NY, Boston), but no one really notices or cares about them.

Edit: I just would like to warn you... If you become a fan of the Flyers or any other Philly sports team, be prepared to have other fans bring up the "you guys are such *******s, you threw snowballs at santa clause, you heartless freaks!" whenever possible. Just so you know... this happened in 1968. NINETEEN ****ING SIXTY EIGHT.

Sorry, but I get so angered when people bring up that argument. Like, seriously? Half the people who partook in the throwing of snowballs are likely in a nursing home by now

Snider and Homer do their damndest to improve the team and win every year. Leonsis and GMGM...not so much.

The Flyers also tend to be contenders annually. It's unusual to miss the playoffs; the Caps are going to be in a much tougher position moving into our division, no more beating up the weak SE.

Biggest attraction to te flyers is MiamiScreamingEagles

Guy is a robot that randomly throws out historic moments at flyers history and random stats that no one remembers. Plus, he has a sweet mustache

Having lived in Northern Virginia for as an adolescent and worked in DC for the past three years, I feel pretty qualified to speak on this subject. The reason you should cheer for the Flyers is quite simple: passion.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend that Philly fans are the nicest fans in the world or the most polite... but the one thing that can't be questioned is the passion we have for sports. I've been a Flyers (and Eagles/Phils/Sixers/etc.) fan my whole life thanks to my Mother and while it's been... bumpy... but I wouldn't have it any other way. The Flyers specifically just have such a great history in comparison to the Caps (or most teams for that matter).

Honestly, DC itself is a very nice city. I like living here a lot, but one thing that constantly chaps my ass is just how much of a bandwagon sports town it is (with one qualification - Redskins fans are ridiculously loyal/passionate). It's a football town that will pretend to give a **** about the Nats or the Capitals when they are in the hunt and strong contenders. Now, that said, I'm sure there are plenty of fans on the Caps board that have followed the team for as long as they can remember/through the thick and thing/etc.... but it pales in comparison to Flyers fans. Ovechkin going to the Caps really bumped up the fanbase, but just this year I noticed when I went to the Flyers/Caps game at the beginning of the season (when both teams had started pretty poorly) how stale the atmosphere at the Verizon Center was. When I was growing up I was constantly laughed at for caring about hockey (who watches that ****?!) yet once the Capitals got Ovechkin EVERYONE LOVED THE CAPS! ROCK THE RED!

Anyway, stream of consciousness over. Don't be a *****, pick the Flyers.

I know I'll get heat for this but I love both teams actually , Flyers would always come first since it is my hometown team and I bleed orange not red , but I loved Bondra , Kolzig , Hatcher , I root for both teams , have my Lindros , Yushkevich , Giroux , Hextall , Recchi , Simmonds jerseys , plus my Bondra , Kolzig , Iafrate , Ovechkin and Holtby jerseys. Both teams are amazing , but you can't go wrong with the Flyers , when you're watching games on TV or watching them at the game , the fans will get you hyped up whether they are losing or winning , and there is nothing in the world more satisfying then watching a Flyers penguins game at the bar.

Well with all those great moves the Caps made this off-season... oh wait.

Caps are a one man team.

A lot of what I was going to post has already been done, pretty great job really!

I want to add though:

Best jersey in pro sports.

Team always play hard, never give up, it is ingrained in the fabric of the teams history.

We are consistently good, 4th in all time regular season win % (2nd of teams playing more than 20 years in NHL.)

36 playoff appearances in 44 years. (Only Montreal have higher %, and are helped by being Original 6 teams)

Took my friend from Australia to a Flyers game when he was visiting, he then went to every Flyers game he could before he left Philly to go home. Needless to say he's a die hard Flyers fan that is spreading the love across the pond in Australia.

Philadelphia is three things: cheesesteaks, history, and *******s. If you like those three things you will like Philadelphia sports (and sports fans).

Go to a flyers game in Philly. Pick a rival game like Pittsburgh. If you aren't a fan after that the idk.

That Giroux game-tying goal against Chicago is awesome. When he received that pass I was celebrating and yelling "Where did you come from, wizard!?" before he even finished scoring. The way he snuck back there was fantastic.

When you do decide to visit Philly There is a thread here somewheres that debates which is better. Gino's or Pat's steak. I would suggest you try both. They are world famous and people try to copy, but nothing like the real thing.
