Official Lines Thread

Okay, I think we could use a lines thread with the additions the team has made to the roster and the fact that the first day of free agency has officially PASSED. So...what you guys got? This is mine, ideally:

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Brassard-Callahan
Pouliot-Richards-Zuccarello
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett

Two scoring lines, an energy line (the second line, that is, the third line will be a sheltered offensive line), and a shutdown line. I like the way the roster is shaping up, any of these lines could chip in a goal at any given time.

I can argue that both Boyle and Pyatt are expandable.
Mash can fill that 4LW spot, that line up needs some muscle.
Where does that leave Boyle at 1.8M cap hit? That's 1M+ in cap space being taken (Difference between boyle's and Mash's caphits), is it worth it?
Another question is what happens to Zuke's contract. The rumor was, it should have been done earlier, what's the hold up? And will it be 2 or 3 years.
And to start the season, you would have to think 2 of Kristo, Miller and Fast will get minutes.

Please take the trade talk to the offseason thread. This is for talking about forming lines with the current roster.

Are we really a better team with Mashinter rather than Boyle? Boyle contributes in ways much of our lineup does not. Plus he has size in what is otherwise a pretty small lineup.

If you trade him, fine. But how are you replacing him? Moore? Please. I'd rather have both in the lineup.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Broussard-Callahan
Boyle-Richards-Zuccarello
Pouliot-Moore-Dorsett

Pyatt and Asham extras. Richards and Kreider can also swap depending on the situation, with Boyle moving to the middle.

We'll see what happens. So much of predicting a lineup is contingent on staying healthy and seeing who actually shows up to play. Kids can come out of nowhere and steal spots. Is it Fall yet?

Line combos are beyond up in the air at this point. Having a top three centers of Stepan, Richards, Brassard to go with Moore doesn't really fit Vigneult's two scoring lines, one checking line, and one energy line mix. Plus we have no idea if Richards bounces back. If he comes in and sucks we could be looking at Lindberg getting a spot. Just for fun:

Pouliot-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Brassard-Callahan
Kreider-Richards-Zuccarello
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett

This could work if Richards bounces back. He and Kreider seemed to have chemistry when Richards wasn't sucking. I'm not in love with playing Brassard with Hagelin and Callahan though. They don't seem to match his complement him very well. I feel like both Nash and Callahan work best with Stepan, which is weird because I used to hate putting Cally with Step. Something really out there to try might be:

Nash-Stepan-Callahan
Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello
Kreider-Richards-Hagelin
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett

If Richards fails to re-find his form and loses his spot, then I could see something like this:

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello
Hagelin-Lindberg-Callahan
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett

imo the biggest question mark about any line combos and frankly about whether or not we'll be any good depends on which brad richards shows up...and whether actually go with stepan, brassard, richards down the middle (in whatever order) or if someone shifts to wing to keep them all in the top 6.

I don't think Richards is going to start the year on the third line. I'll bet he will be given a shot on the first line and if he fails, he'll move to the second, and so on. There's no way AV, the new coach, is not going try Richards out.

depends on how he shows up in camp but i think the odds are very high that he gets another shot with nash under AVs system (assuming he shows up in shape). there is probably 0% chance of that working but richards & nash working together on the top line would be the best case scenario so you gotta try it

Nice to have a 4th line that can hit the twine every now and then

Assuming everyones healthy I go with the below to start. I do think a trade will go down though.

Nash, Stepan, Callahan
Hagelin, Richards, Kreider
Pouliot, Brassard, Zuccarello
Boyle, Moore, Dorsett
Asham

Would move Pyatt and Powe but who knows

If Cally and Hagelin are hurt to start the yr then whoever earns it but guessing Kristo and Fast impress. Lindberg and Miller likely could use time in CT. Haley as a spare if Asham is moved

Despite how strongly I feel in the fact that this is not the team we open the season with (obviously), here's how I'd want the lines to look with our team today. BTW, fun to note that Dom Moore is already listed on the NYR website on the roster as #18

STAAL TRADE INCOMING (KIDDING! They're both listed at #18, I'm sure it's just the old HTML kicking in ) Also important to note that Ben Ferriero is on the roster page.

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Brassard - Zuccarello
Pouliot - Richards - Callahan
Dorsett - Moore - Boyle
Haley

Staal - G
McD - Stralman
Moore - DZ
Falk

The Big Line: Hagelin-Brassard-Nash

2A: Kreider-Stepan-Zuccarello

2B: Pouliot-Richards-Callahan

Grind Line: Dorsett-Moore-Boyle

I listed it like this because with the addition of Pouliot, AV, and if Richards can be halfway passable, I think we're gonna see more distribution of minutes among 3 lines and then a plug line, rather than top/bottom 6. This is a great thing. But if Richards is terribad again, this is gonna be a mess.

Don't think Brassard is gonna be a top 2 C or even a C for this team this year (maybe when Richards is bought out). I think he'll be moved to wing and take situational face-offs when our center gets the boot.

That being said AV is atypical when it comes to running his lines. He tries to evenly distribute their time depending on situations.

To start the season:

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Zucc-Richards-Brassard
Miller-Lindberg-Poulliot
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett

I genuinely think that Hrvik could also make this team in place of Miller/Lindberg.

When Hags + Kreider come back:

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Lindberg/Miller-Callahan (Depending on who the Rangers believe the better center is)
Zucc-Richards-Brassard
Boyle/Moore -Miller/Lindberg- Dorsett/Poulliot

Defense:

Staal-Girardi
McD-Stralman
Moore-MDZ

If MDZ is traded look for Falk or someone to be the plug in stop gap for McIlrath. One of Staal/MDZ will be traded along with 1 or 2 of the bottom 6 guys we have for a legit top 6er at some point. That will shift these line combinations.

I feel like Hrivik, Miller and maybe Lindberg and Fast have a chance to make the team out of camp. That obviously changes things. I'm not ready to pencil them into the lineup yet, though. Let's see how camp goes.

We should be cautious about applying AVs line setup in Vancouver to this roster. He almost never had 3 offensively capable centermen on the Vancouver roster. The closest he came recently was with Hodgson, but he wasnt very effective (due to no fault of his own or AVs). Malhotra was normally the 3C in Vancouver recently. Before that it was Kyle Wellwood. Earlier in his tenure, he did have Sedin, Kesler, Sundin, and Demitra all at the same time. That was so "long" ago that I don't think that whatever he did then is associated with him.

I'm not sure what our lineup will look like. I'd be surprised if we didn't see one or more of our centers tried at wing at some point during the year. Here's what I'd like, in an ideal world.

Hagelin-Richards-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett

I like these lines, the 3rd line is soft yeah but it's got goal scoring ability up and down

I think out of all the prospects who have a legit shot at making the club with hags and cally hurt has to be Danny Kristo. If those two are out to begin the season I see AV going with something like this...

Kreider Brassard Nash
Zucc Stepan Kristo
Poliout Richards Boyle
Pyatt Moore Dorsett

Really pulling for Kristo, been a huge fan of him since he won gold with step and kreider in the world juniors. Extremely excited for the new season to begin.

We have to have one of the deepest defenses in the league.

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Del Zotto
Moore - Stralman
Falk/Johnson/McIlrath

And they're too soft. Yeah they do a good job, but there's no snarl on the back end. And I'm not talking about fighting, I'm talking about clearing the crease, playing with an edge, throwing the body

How about let's not start with this.

All I said was that it was deep. Almost any team in the league would be better off with that top 4, and the bottom pairing could easily do second pairing minutes.
