I understand that some people are fustrated and such that we signed Matt Cooke... But i think that everyone should atleast give him a chance before they give their opinion... im not trying to stick up for him but i mean never know what he does for us until we see come camp

I for one will keep my opinion about him until i can see what he can do on ice... yah i am a mixed in between happy and upset about the signing but am willing to give him a chance before i give my final decision

Lets put seto on a team with two hall of fame level players and see where his numbers are then

They do need to be careful. He carries a shank and is known to use it in scrums.

From a pragmatic hockey standpoint Matt Cooke is a good pickup. He is the prototypical player you love to hate. Still can't get behind this signing. Even if he has put his dirty, classless play in the past. He is still a coward. He'll chirp, talk ****, and antagonize until your ears bleed. But once you stand your ground he'll retreat quicker than Austin's fast turtle. At least if he showed he'd back his words I could muster some respect for the player.
He's a Wild player now, that does address a need. Don't like it, but it is what it is. Look on the bright side. In another thread in the Wild subsection, fans were looking for a new scapegoat. Well Fletcher just signed him for three years.

I will lay out a month salary Cooke does not achieve those lofty offensive numbers on a Wild team where they top 2-3 lines struggle to score for long stretches. They chose to goon it up instead of addressing needs. As a fan of another team in that division I might send Fletcher a big thank you!

I wish the Leafs signed him. That's a good deal for Cooke.

Glad he is out of the eastern conference. He can be a very good 3rd line guy who can chip in offense, kill penalties and be an effective player but he's still one of the dirtiest players that I've ever seen. He's a guy that seems to take pride in ending careers and I don't see him as reformed (witness Erik Karlsson's injury this past season) and I don't really see how ending other players careers with cheap shots makes him a tough player or Minnesota a tougher team. It certainly can be an advantage for his team to knock somebody out with an elbow or a blindside shoulder to the jaw or by taking out someone's knee and there's a long line of victims that can attest to that. I don't like the mother****er and think he should have been banned a long time ago.

As a Wild fan, it's hard to erase the memories of his goon days in Vancouver, but I'm willing to give him a chance. If he can stay clean and work his tail off (like Pens fans say he should) then I can see him gradually growing on our fanbase. Not like we can really do anything about the situation now so we might as well make the best of it.

My guess is he will try to chirp many of our Jets for the next three years. Until Evander Kane shoots him some cocky smile or wink. That's when he will chirp en route to a line change.

Seriously though he's a great third line banger and PKer. Decent price and you guys got a second for the Cooke-Seto swap.

With the Blues getting Lapierre and the Wild with Cooke, the Central is going to be an interesting division this coming season.

Ugh.

Why Minnesota? Why?

Every team in the west just ordered some Kevlar socks and added some extra padding to their players helmets.

Matt Cooke didn't play with Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin last year.

you are about the 4876257921st person to make a Kevlar socks joke. the Wild aren't even getting the Vancouver/Washington/early Pittsburgh Cooke. they're getting the neutered "i could get kicked out of the league if i do one more stupid thing" Cooke who is more worried about his two-way effectiveness than taking someone out of commission.

That number of digits sounds a little defensive...good hockey player, but a huge ***** that doesn't show much respect in any way for his opponent. He is what he is.

Time will never dim our hatred for Cooke.

One of the few players I would like to see put out of commission permanently.

Almost identical career offensive production to David Clarkson, with none of the power-play time. Logs big PK minutes, hits, blocks shots and draws a solid amount of penalties.

Won't help with a lack of offense, but he's a solid contributor at a discount price given what similar or lesser players got on the open market (Clarkson, Clowe). Wouldn't want to have given him that third year as he's getting up there and might not be able to play tough minutes at 37, but he's a good add. Don't let his reputation erase the fact he's a solid, productive hockey player.

For Minny's sake, I hope he doesn't do anything stupid or there will be huge targets on koivu and parise.

No where near as interesting as the hyperventilating indignation and weepy drama we'll enjoy on these boards.

Minny fans will like what he does on the ice regardless of any hate they have for him. He is actually a very clean player now and he is one of the best 3rd liners in the league. Still can't believe people actually said that he wouldn't get any offers in free agency, by far the most stupid thing I've read on hfboards (which is saying a lot.)

I'm content with the signing. With the leash that Matt Cooke is clearly aware that he's on, I'm not worried he will do anything stupid. He's playing under a microscope and he knows it. I don't think he's willing to risk losing the three-year contract he just signed.

Why live in the past? You can't change anything about it.

And when he can't play on the PK because he's one of the guys in the box or serving a game misconduct, fans will remember exactly why it was a bad idea to sign him ... because if it was such a good idea, Shero would have re-signed him.
