Lines for next season

So as of now, if no more moves were made, what would our lines be?

Hornqvist Wilson stalberg
Smith Cullen bourque
Beck legwand forsberg
Hendricks fisher nystrom

Weber josi
Klein Bartley
Jones ekholm/Ellis.

Rinne
Hutton

For forwards we still have spaling, clune, watson and gaustad not on a line (as long as forsberg makes it out of camp), something had to give, we have way to many NHL forwards.
Am I missing anyone?

I still think this team needs more offensive punch, and with some of the prospects we have and picks and extra roster players, I can't imagine how something can't be worked out, I guess time will tell. Nice to get kostitsyn money off our laps.

So Forsberg and Smith don't make the opening day roster? Interesting.

Smith looks like a guy who will be traded. Hope I'm wrong. Forsberg needs to be brought along slowly. If either makes the team put them in Clunes spot. Actually Hendricks might occupy that spot anyway

It really depends on camp.

I think Fisher will start the year pivoting the top line, with Wilson and Stalberg playing wings.

Legwand will be on the second line with Bourque and Hornqvist.

Cullen on the third with Bourque and Forsberg if he makes it out of camp. If he doesn't, Beck will take that spot.

The fourth line will be interesting. I think going into the season it will be Gaustad between Hendricks and Nystrom.

As far as defensemen:

Weber and Josi is a given.

The second pair is interesting. If Jones looks good in camp he will likely start the season with Klein. If not, I think they put Ekholm or Bartley there, whoever had the better camp.

Ellis will play on the third pair with the left over from Jones/Ekholm/Bartley.

Bourque on the second and third lines. Nice. I think we have enough forward to not double shift him. Lol.

I think Spaling will get traded. Depends a lot on camp on who goes to Milwaukee. Forsberg or Beck or maybe both. Clune may get waived. It is a make or break year for Smith.

Don't forget Spaling. He'll be re-signed soon enough.

Definitely have too many forwards, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just an awful lot of redundancy.

Have a feeling Stalberg and Hornqvist won't work well on the same line. They seem too similar. I also think Wilson should stick with wing. The signing of Cullen kind of hints towards that.

Wilson-Legwand-Stalberg
Hornqvist-Fisher-Bourque
Smith-Cullen-Spaling
Clune-Gaustad-Nystrom <--really want to see this line happen

Don't know where to put Hendricks. I don't like that signing. I guess one of Spaling or Smith will be gone.

This is how I think it will shape out.

RW C LW
Hornqvist - Fisher - Wilson
Stalberg - Legwand - Forsberg
Smith - Cullen - Bourque
Hendricks - Gaustad - Nystrom

Bench - Clune

Weber - Josi
Klein - Jones
Ellis - Bartley
Ekholm

Rinne
Hutton

Am I the only one that would rather have Clune out there than Smith? I honestly love Clune and how hard he has tried. Skills or not he gives his all and he has done well at it.

Wilson-Fisher-Stalberg
Hornqvist-Legwand-Forsberg
Bourque-Cullen-Smith/Spaling(one wont be here)
Hendricks-Gaustad-Nystrom
Clune

Weber-Josi
Klein-Jones
Bartley-Ellis
Ekholm

Rinne
Hutton

Beck/Watson in Milwaukee

Now, what I would like to see is Poile shock us and either sign Roy or Grabo, or trade for a C, bumping Leggy to 3C and Cullen to wing.

I think if Beck makes the team you could see him with Hornquist and Legwand as a 3rd line. The actually looked like an nhl line last year. Otherwise, I think we put Stalberg and Bourque with him as Legwand had his best years when he could play with guys who could counter-attack and skate with him. this is where a year older josi and jones slick first pass could really help us.

I think (and you can label lines whatever you want)

Stalberg-Legwand-Bourque
Wilson-Fisher-Forsberg
Beck-Cullen-Hornquist
Nystrom-Gaustad-Hendricks

extras-Smith, Spaling, Clune
Milwaukee first call-Watson

I really don't think we keep Smith and Spaling around, but assuming we do, that will push everyone up and down the roster as far as competing for ice time. What t also does is allow us to send Beck and FF down if they really are not ready.

Wilson-Legwand-Hornqvist
Forsberg-Fisher-Bourque
Stalberg-Cullen-Smith
Hendricks-Gaustad-Nystrom
Spaling, Clune

Weber-Josi
Klein-Jones
Ellis-Bartley
Ekholm

Hellberg/Hutton

If everyone of those regular players plays to his potential, we'll get 240 goals. How I've broken that down is:

25-20-30
15-25-25
15-15-15
5-5-5

15-10
5-5
5-0

That's assuming everyone stays healthy (they won't, but we have enough tested depth now to feel safe in trying to fill gaps). If we can hold our opposition to 210 goals (which we most certainly can), we could be contenders again. But that's assuming that Stalberg plays to his billing, that Cullen, Fisher, and Legwand don't start declining, that Forsberg and Smith aren't completely over-matched, and that Wilson's shoulder issues are behind him.

We do have a little extra depth now. We can withstand three injuries in the forward group. Spaling, Beck, and Bang (we qualified him, so I'm assuming he's coming back until something happens) can all step in and plug gaps, and Watson might could, too. If Cehlin is ready for a taste, that will help.

Defensively, we're actually really susceptible to injury, but our defense was pretty durable overall last year: Weber, Josi, and Klein missed one game combined. If we can get a repeat performance of that from those three, plus the addition of a wild card in Jones, this could be a really tough team to score against.

But, again, that's only if everyone plays to their potential. That is the utmost in optimistic estimates. I don't think we'll get there, but I give us a fighting chance to make the playoffs again.

If Clune isn't playing, which would surprise me, as they like his game, he will be shipped elsewhere, as no less than 10 teams mentioned him in deal talk recently (from his agent, to him.)

Forsberg should not be rushed.

Beck will have the opportunity in camp to win a spot, but there are no guarantees.

The four guys signed up front today are pretty much a lock to be on the opening night roster.

My question is, does Cullen replace goose?? Same money roughly but Cullen is older but has more offensive touch.

Also,
Is spaling gone? With getting some of the bottom six players we got, I can see took for him as well.

Too bad because I would rather have spaling at 2.5 million than nystrom.

I think it is too early to tell, I expect some moves and one but better two signings. Top 6 and D

I strongly believe Forsberg is very raw as of now. Beck to the minors too.

Sign Grabo, trade for Vanek - Legwand Spaling Ellis

Wilson - Grabo - Vanek
Stalberg - Fisher - Hornqvist
Bourque - Cullen - Hendricks
Clune - Goose - Nystrom

Weber Josi
Jones Klein
Ekholm Bartley
D

We should keep Smith tho, because if what I am hearing form Hawks fans is true Smith will take his spot in 15 games. LOL

Legwand has a NTC. do we really think he would waive it to go to a rebuilding Buffalo team after he has spent 14 years with the Preds?

and if Smith plays like he has the last year and a half he wont take Stalbergs spot he will be lucky if he can get a spot anywhere other than the press box.

The question is who stays and who goes?

For forwards we need twelve dressed on a nightly basis.
Say forsberg, Watson and beck all start the season in Milwaukee, we still have
Hornqvist
Wilson
stalberg
Smith
Cullen
bourque
legwand
Hendricks
fisher
nystrom
Spaling
Clune
Goose

That's 13 forwards. And we cannot think beck, forsberg, and Watson don't see any NHL time. I imagine we see budish as well.

When I heard the signings I spent my day going through the stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, depression, acceptance.

Now I'm looking at the roster and analyzing and trying to build a depth chart.

Here's what the team looks like in my mind:

Wilson-Fisher-Forsberg

I'm not sure if Forsberg has earned the spot but if he has the talent give him Wilson to feed the play and Fisher to be the two-way defenseman.

Bourque-Cullen-Stalberg

Speed kills line. All three are fast and could be a change of pace line. Fisher line looks like a medium pace line, this is the fast line and the next line is the slow line...

Nystrom-Legwand-Hornqvist

A set up line for plays? Get Hornqvist in front of the goalie, Nystrom for energy and he likes to shoot, Legwand for D. I could see Smith replace Nystrom.

Spaling-Gaustad-Smith Extras? Hendricks, Clune.

The chateau le bow wow line? The not long for this team line? The 'Well everyone else is tired so put them out' line?

Even then. I have no ****ING idea about this roster. I wonder if Trotz is going to have a triple threat match between Cullen-Legwand-Fisher. So many wings who pairs well with who? Chemistry?

Why not to waive? His on his last year. I would go there no problem and try to make a case for myself that outside of Nashville I am a better player. He defenetly won't do it on third line with Preds.

It is not like any of them gonna be a contender this year.
He actually would have a better chance at winning the cup by been traded at tdl to a contender, while in
Nashville he is gonna stuck with mess. If he so in love with Preds he can come back after a year. Polie will take him back no problem.

As of Stalberg. 22 goals... Watch he was on the ice when those goals was scored. CYA

Forsberg on the first like with Wilson?? The guy hasn't even played 6 NHL games yet.

I also don't see stalberg in top six.

IMO, here is top six,
Hornqvist, Wilson, fisher, Cullen..... I dunno about other two, maybe legwand and bourque/beck??

Pretty weak top six. Probably weakest in NHL.

that scenario might be one in which he would waive, if we were clearly going to have to do a full rebuild.... but thats a far cry from asking him to waive to go to a rebuliding Buffalo this summer as you suggested

Same here. I think Smith gets a stay of execution based on what he did under Housley at the WC's, but I'd rather have Clune + asset gained from trading Smith.
