There always seems to be a dark horse.

My bet is on Jason Zucker. I saw enough of this kid this year to know that he will be a great player. He outplayed legitimate NHLers in the AHL.

His compete level is huge.

Just sayin, watch out for him.

If Drouin gets that prime spot playing with Stamkos' line, it will be extremely difficult to pick any player ahead of him.

For me I'd guess it'll finish something like this;

1) Drouin
2) MacKinnon
3) Jones

Tampa has some candidates this year.

Jo Drouin- CHL MVP
Tyler Johnson- AHL MVP
Ondrej Palat- leading AHL playoff scorer
Mark Barberio- AHL defenseman of the year last year.

I don't know if he's been mentioned yet, but if Brandon Pirri makes the Hawks as the 2nd line centre, watch out for him to be a dark horse.

He was the AHL's leading scorer this past season (75Pts in 76GP). He'll likely be playing between Hossa and Sharp, and will be on Chicago's 2nd PP unit that will likely consist of Marian Hossa, Brandon Saad, Nick Leddy and Brent Seabrook.

I realize RNH was also hurt.

Drouin may have more points and still lose it since he is one dimensional. Just saying it's possible.
You think thats the reason? Not that he played 20 more games?

Drouin. If he plays with Stamkos, he will get lots of points and exposure.

Baertschi has a really good chance to lock it up this year. First line minutes, finished the season on a 7 game point streak where he had 3 goals and 6 assists after being called up from the Heat.

I think 50 points is a very doable season for him.

Bjugstad?!

WOW. Zero chance and I am a huge MN Gopher fan. The kid is just one big disappointment and is a ghost 90% of the time. Wasn't even the Gophers best player during his college career. Haula was the best Gopher and a 7th round pick.

Mackinnon, Drouin or Baertschi / and my wild card pick of Nichushkin who I think will compete with Mackinnon and Jones to be the best player from this draft years down the road. Steal for Dallas at the draft!!!

The fact that non-Jets fans are mentioning not one but two Jets prospects is encouraging.

Dear lord the amount of Colorado homers in here.

It's tough to say. Drouin could get it if he gets ice time with Stamkos/St.Louis. I don't think Forsberg will win it simply based on Nashville's struggle with scoring goals, and I don't expect him to jump into a top-6 role.

If Scheifele can put it all together in his head, he has a real shot at it this year IMO.

Colorado seems to have a shocking number of homers on hfboards in general. Strange, not a team I would expect that from.

I think Drouin will win, but you think we are homers because we think the top rated prospect and number 1 overall pick could win the Calder?

I don't understand the shot at Avs fans. You don't think the #1 overall pick isn't a legit contender for the Calder? I wouldn't trash a Bolts fan picking Drouin or a Flames fan picking Sven.

This is almost impossible to do without seeing line placement and some of the things that will go on. For instance I don't think they are breaking up St. Louis - Stamkos - Purcell, putting Drouin with Filppula. You want to balance the offense. So right now I would lean toward Filip Forsberg, think he is going to get premium ice-time and told to be an offensive guy. Sven Bärtschi also looks like he will have a pretty good gig.

Still mad about the Avs picking MacKinnon. Or because we were bluffing?

MacKinnon has a shot. So will have the other 3 from Jones, Drouin or Barkov. As well as Nichushkin. It was a great draft so I expect many 1st rounders to stick.
Best chances out of the 2013 draft if they stick in order:
1. Drouin
2. Barkov
3. Nichuskin/MacKinnon
4. Jones

Who I think will win the Calder?:
1 out of Tarasenko/ Kuznetsov / Baertschi

Darkhorse? Toffoli
