I believe it's Coburn + one of our young centers (Schenn/Couts) what teams would ask for. For you and me it's overpayment, for them it's what needs to be offered to move them.

Now if we could agree on Coburn + Laughton, I'd be all over it.
How does that help this team?

Trading Coburn for a dman that hasn't been as good as Coburn yet and in reality projects to be no better then what Coburn was projected to be. It's not like Coburn is 34 y/o and needs his replacement found.

If the Flyers can add EJ or Bogo for Laughton and picks (s) that would make more sense.

Did you ask this question to Nashville fans last summer when Shea Weber hit free agency? Did you ask it again when Nashville matched your mega-offer?

The situation doesn't suggest anything about Pietrangelo's value to the Blues. It suggests that the Blues, like Nashville, have a budget and want to/have to sign guys to reasonable contracts. It may backfire like it did with Nashville. However, the new CBA has made offer sheeting Petro a little more difficult.

IF it backfires on the Blues, they will match and move Shattenkirk, Perron, or Stewart to create space. Heck, that seems likely anyways. It will be similar to you guys getting Pietrangelo and having to move Coburn. You clear out the lesser players to make room for the superstars.
I don't see Blues losing Shatt or Pietro but would they trade JBo before a forward like Stewart?

Highly doubt it. Armstrong just spent a year trying to acquire Bouwmeester. I'd be completely shocked if he even talks to a team about JBo. Not too mention JBo was great with the Blues last year. He was a #1-B defenseman behind Pietrangelo.

I really don't think Army wants to move anyone on defense. Trading one guy from the D for offense doesn't necessarily make our team complete. It just means we weakened our one major strength to TRY to provide an answer for our biggest question mark.

Does having one major strength win a championship, though? Maybe we should weaken our defense to give our team some offense. Not many teams win with a lopsided team. Also, moving Shattenkirk doesn't destroy our defense. We would still have Petro/JBo/Polak/Jackman playing 45 minutes a night. We would just need to find someone to pair with Leopold for the remaining 15 or so.

Guys, we ain't getting Bogo without 1 of Couts, Brayde, Jake , Simmer going with Coburn. He is a rockstar in this town and Jets would ask a lot to move him. That being said it is insane that he hasn't been resigned.

If there's any chance I could trade for Pietrangelo then the assets I'd make available, who I actually think have some trade value, are (in no particular order):

Established players:
Simmonds, Hartnell, B. Schenn, L. Schenn, Coburn, Grossmann, Read.

Prospects:
Laughton, Talbot, Cousins, Stolarz, Morin, Hagg.

I think with that you could get a deal done IF the Blues would entertain a trade offer.

NHL - Flames continued talks with Flyers for Couturier, source - Flyers require Meszaros be part of any deal, + Flames 2014 1st + prospect

Sundays are typically pretty slow days in terms of player signings and movement. We're not likely to see anything until tomorrow.

I really don't get rumors like this. Holmgren has done nothing to suggest he has any interest in moving Couturier. He has been rumored to refuse to give him up for Weber last summer, and guys like Yandle and Ryan this year...why would he be untouchable for players this team could actually use and all of a sudden be available for Calgary's 1st round pick??

We need to ban all tweets from that guy. He seems fairly useless.

F that. bogosian is not nearly as proven as coburn or voracek.

That franchise is going nowhere. Id do laughton and a 1st but that is redundant for them because bryan little is a nhl version of laughton.

in a few years they will have 3 great pairings but no offense.

I don't trust Allsportsintel. Nothing seems legit about him.

I hate the idea of Couts for a pick. But depending on the prospect, is their any chance Calgarys pick isnt a top 3 ? And lose Mezz's salary ?

But lose his salary for what? Too sign a 3rd line C?

The team loses Mez' salary at the end of this coming season. Trading Couts to dump an expiring contract and get a 1st next year is extraordinarily stupid. No way that happens.

If it is simply Couturier and Mez for a pick and a prospect, I would have to say that is not the case. Couturier was untouchable at the draft allegedly, but now all of the sudden they would trade him for a pick and a prospect (from a team that really doesn't have much in the ways of prospects unless they are dealing Monahan, which would be redundant for both teams).

I would easily give up Coburn for Bogosian but unfortunately Winnipeg isn't that dumb.

There are a few interesting names still available. I'd have a bunch of interest in Chad LaRose at a discount rate for the 3rd line. Blum on possibly a 2-way deal? He'd be instant top pairing in Adirondack and a solid call-up for when the injury bug comes visiting.
