Personally I wouldn't. They have bigger needs, and he'd cost a ton. The GM made comments indicating Benn was likely moving back to wing, and others in the organization have indicated Eriksson is a core member of the team (this is far from definitive proof, but Modano is the only specific example I can think of right now).

Until one of them is traded, or Benn in fact stays at center, you've already got Benn, Eriksson, Whitney, and Cole to play wing. You have more than enough wing prospects to fill out the remaining key spots in the Top 9 as well.

Unless they're signing a short term veteran option at wing, I'm not interested in one. Ryder is going to command top money for sure, and he'll likely get a significant term as well. I don't want a 35 year old Ryder down the line eating up $5 million in cap space when they are trying to figure out how to re-sign Eriksson, Oleksiak, Chiasson, etc., etc., etc. You can throw almost any guy on an ELC who has the potential to earn big bucks in the next 1 to 2 years.

I'm OK with big money on short term deals to older vets right now or taking a chance on a youngish player.

I'm not sold on the guy since I think teams will go to stupid levels to sign him, but I'd almost rather see a guy like Bickell under contract than Ryder. I'd cap my interest at $3 million (which I think is already a pretty absurd number for him), but I'd be willing to bet he gets more if he tests free agency.

Whoever signs Bickell to a contract of 3 million or more is making a huge mistake. He's a guy that wasnt a big scorer in juniors, wasnt much of a scorer in the AHL, and hasnt been much of a scorer in the NHL. He's shooting an unsustainable 22% in the playoffs, almost twice his career average. He's a 30 point guy over the course of a season.

I think he was referring to Ryder at three million or more.

Nope.

Sean Bergenheim, Joel Ward, and to a lesser extent Tomas Kopecky all say hi.

Added Connauton

Didn't put him in the NHL boat just yet. I'll add him after they move someone out.

I might be the only one interested in Burmistrov, but he's done a great job in Winnipeg playing a shutdown role there. Only problem is his offensive game hasn't blossomed and there were some rumours of a potential attitude concern.

However, he's still young and has lots of promise and Nill isn't adverse to having Europeans in the team.

Some people are interested, some people aren't. I'd love him as a #3 center, but the only thing that separates him from Eakin is a slower motor and more offensive potential. I'd rather add and go after Couturier honestly.

Only problem with that is Couturier is not available. Philly will be using at least one of their compliance buy-outs this summer on either Briere or Bryzgalov to get them under the cap, while Streit's new salary will likely be equivalent to that of Pronger's once he's put on LTIR (they're likely set on d now and will be drafting either Ristolainen or Zadorov at 11).

No reason for Philly to trade either him or Schenn, as they'll have Giroux-Schenn-Couturier down the middle for years to come.

So here's everything updated. I added Nichushkin to the NHL roster. Until he proves otherwise, I think we should consider him in the contract count.

That said, they're at 49 contracts, but Faksa and Bystrom's contract will most likely not count against the limit. Therefore, Dallas is up against it at 47 contracts right now.

Updated everything.

Added Chiasson. Without Fraser and Smith for competition, I think he's likely in the NHL.

Again ... same educated guess on Nichushkin contract.

Didn't put Connauton in the NHL just yet rather than making an assumption one of Daley or Robidas is actually gone.

Dallas can add 4 more contracts.

Update. Again did a best educated guess on Nichushkin and MacDermid. They're at the point that someone has to go out for someone else to come in.

With this UFA crop and their asking prices I am glad we made these trades instead of getting locked into long term high priced deals.

If everything works out as planned and our young players reach their potential, this team is going to be disgusting in 2014-15. Between Benn, Seguin, Dillon, Nichushkin, Chiasson, Roussel, Eakin, Oleksiak, Lehtonen, Campbell, Faksa and Ritchie, we have an outstanding young core.

Beats where we were at a few years ago when Scott Glennie was one of our more highly rated prospects...

Yea, I really do see us being a legit Cup contender within 3-5 years.

Also, I'm willing to bet we sign Iginla tomorrow. 2 years, 3M per. Dunno why, but I think that LA guy is right.

Way too low for Iginla.

2-3 years, 5 per.

I'm not so sure Tristan King should still have 1 year remaining on his contract. I do believe Cap Geek has possibly made a mistake.
