Well this thread has sure died...What's a better defensive style, playing the man or puck? Noticed I'm losing a lot more games since I switched to playing the puck by using the poke check more often...

Poke check, but don't rely on either, I like to use a mix of both, the best defence is just staying in good position and keeping the man to the outside, if he is close enough to you or close to the net then I like to hit the man. But DO NOT try to be Niklas Kronwall and hit guys at the blue line. Sometimes you can fake doing it and the guy will try to sidestep you or deke you and you have an easy pokecheck

Definitely a mix. and Like the above poster said, it's all about positioning. Just stay between the puck and the net, look for obvious passing plays, if you get the chance go for the hit (but I get burned by this so much, IDK what it is but 90% of my hits dont do anything and the guy just slides right by)

Best advice: Keep calm, keep good positioning.

Well, I won the Amateur Playoffs Woo! Won the first game in the pro playoffs, but had a hard time finding anyone after that in pairings so I never got to go any further.

That said, I am willing to adjust my roster. I'm on PS3.
Looking to move: Kovy, Toews, SOTW Kronwall, Myers, I have ~30k pucks
Looking to get: SOTW Marleau, SCE Getzlaf

Here's my lineup:

Zetterberg (C)/Toews/Kovalchuk
SOTW Couture/SOTW Pavelski/SCE Kane(A)
Nash/SCE Thornton/Hossa
SCE Lucic/Kesler/Carter

SCE Chara/SOTW Boyle
SOTW Suter/Burns(A)
SOTW Kronwall/Myers

Quick/Lehtonen

Feel free to send me offers in pucks, or quality players.

Man, HUT chat just totally dies near the end of the game cycle. I guess I'll spruce it up a bit.

Everyone post your final roster, if you were content with it, how many Playoff runs you made, how excited for NHL 14 HUT!

Zetterberg (C)/Toews/Kovalchuk
SOTW Couture/SOTW Pavelski/SCE Kane(A)
Nash/SCE Thornton/Hossa
SCE Lucic/Kesler/Carter

SCE Chara (A)/SOTW Boyle
SOTW Suter/Burns
SOTW Kronwall/Myers

Quick/Lehtonen

-Definitely happy with my roster. A couple lucky pulls in my first few packs had me able to play the market for a bit, and never looked back. Definitely bought a few packs with $ on promo, but maybe $20 total throughout the season. Not bad considering how much of the game I played.

-Made it to the finals in Amateur Playoffs at least 5 times, won it 3 times, and never got too far into the Pro Playoffs.

-Ready for a fresh start in HUT! I wonder what HUT bonuses will be in the special edition of NHL 14..

SCE Bickell / Toews (C) / Kane
SCE Sharp (A) / SCE Handzus / SCE Hossa
Saad / Bolland / Stalberg
SOTW Shaw / Kruger / SCE Frolik

SCE Hjalmarsson / SCE Keith (A)
SCE Leddy / SCE Seabrook
SCE Oduya / SCE Roszival

SCE Crawford / SCE Emery

-Gotta love that my Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup this year! It's been a hell of a lot of fun playing HUT this year, met some awesome people, completed almost the entire NHL, and had the best success with my hawks roster

-Made it to the finals in Amateur Playoffs a few times, won twice, and I never tried the Pro Playoffs. I know I spent at least $250 bucks on HUT; that's definitely gonna change this year (and by change I mean a crap ton less!)

-I'm excited to see what they do with HUT this year. I kind of hope they do what they did in Madden 13, where you can pick a captain for your squad right at the start. But, beggars can't be choosers. Excited to see that my HUT reward could surpass 20k though! A lot better than my 1.7k last year lol

So I pretty much only play online, but I decided to try out the offline All-Star tournament after I won the online one. How stupid is offline? The shooting is autoaim, there's no fatigue, and you can't change your lines. So I had one line out the entire game and I can't even aim my own shots. Essentially, you don't have control aside from passing. What's the point?
