If he gets an offersheet, then most of the RFA's out there deserve one too. Ho-hum Tanev has no offensive ability. 'Oh yes please!'

Stepan
Pietrangelo
The immortal Nazem Kadri

THESE guys are offer sheet-worthy.

He can also play the 2nd pair I have seen him with Edler and they played pretty well, same with Corrado.
You're right, he technically ''can'' score, he's done it twice in 92 games so yeah slightly below what an offensive defenseman will do.

Also in 73 AHL games he has scored 1 goal, so 3 goals in 165 career pro games.

who is overrating him? I dont understand this overrating talk at all. He deserves all the credit he has gotten which is not as much as SOME of you think. I would say Gillis matches 2.5-3.. If we are forced over the cap can we still buy out Booth?

Sure, if you want to toss in an extra 5-6 million per player in that type of situation and cost yourself an additional 2-3 extremely valuable picks in the process. The offer-sheets you consider "worthy" are insanely risky. There have been lots of $1.5-3 million offer-sheets since the lockout (Kesler, Bernier, Backes off the top of my head).

His current abilities aren't worth anywhere near 2.5 or 3. He's an RFA, has no leverage at all, played third pairing minutes.

He deserves 1.5 at the absolute max. Some of the players people compare him to are SO much more dynamic, I've seen people say he could get what Subban got... are they kidding me?

He's also very soft, has no shot, so yeah he's alright and pretty solid in the role he's been given but lets not go crazy here. Maybe he'll turn into a less offensive version of Hamhuis, that's what I'm hoping but he'll have to start playing against MUCH better players instead of taking on the 3/4 lines.
This. No team's going to offersheet a bottom pairing defenseman who has shown no offensive flash for $3m per when guys like Cowen, Pietrangelo, Stepan, etc are still out there. I like Tanev and I think he has upside but Canucks fans are definitely overrating him.

I basically just like him for his defensive play and getting those once in awhile exciting goals. That's what makes him valuable but it is true that some people do take him to a point were they overrate him.

Calgary/Edmonton should do it, worst case they hurt a divisional rival by poaching a player or driving up the Canucks cap

2nd compensation they'd try and find a way to match.

1st+ from a scrub team lie Calgary, hmmmm top 5 overall pick - he's all yours.

Tanev stands tall to pressure, where as someone like Bieksa can't get out of the way fast enough, regardless of if it means coughing up the puck to closest man in a different jersey. Great young D-man, will **** a chicken if Gillis lets go of him.
I like Tanev as much as the next guy, but you'll do what with a chicken?!?

He played against top competition when paired with Hamhuis and performed fine

but agreed, needs to bulk up and improve on his offensive abrasiveness

Tanev is good young D but he's not the type of guy you risk an offersheet war over.

no, the worst case is they're stuck paying $3 million to Chris freaking Tanev.

If someone is willing to give him $3M+ at this stage of his career, enjoy. He's a $1.5M dman, give or take a quarter million. No offense, no physicality, doesn't do a good enough job of protecting himself against injuries. He's a reliable 3rd pair defenseman who MIGHT evolve into a 2nd pair defenseman a few years from now.

He's a bit over rated. I'd let him walk at 2 million.

wow are you his agent ?

Way to throw Edler, Beiksa and Ballard under the bus. They are all better defenders then him.

Lol. As great as Tanev is I wouldn't be willing to match a ridiculous offersheet to keep him. We have Corrado willing to step into his shoes this year if need be.

I like Tanev, but I'm not convinced he's going to be a top end defenceman. He needs a lot of development. Would love to get a first for Tanev. Please someone, anyone send a big offer sheet.

If Vancouver was tight against the cap it's a good idea, but they got the room to match. 4 million is the most anyone would i offer i'd think, and i bet Vancouver would match that. Young D have extreme value. Tanev looks pretty solid from what i've seen.
