I didn't stay up to watch the vote, but from reading the BOH board ... holy ****, the guy that cast the final vote was a Fire fighter... You reap what you sow Glendale.

are you trying to suggest that the tragedy this weekend had anything to do with funding of the fire department?

as others have said, the wails of "we will have to cut cops/firefighters/teachers" is a well worn political scare tactic. The same thing was said about what would happen after the federal budget sequester. the fact is they always end up finding the money to provide the services needed

You pretty much covered it, thanks.

I'm not saying the claims are not true, but I think most of us probably lack the information to make a judgment on it. That the rabid group wanting hockey eviscerated from Arizona (the thread in the BoH section was sad to read) is harping on those talking points probably makes me even a bit more skeptical than I normally would be.

Just noticed calgary gave McGrattan an two year contract... good for Big Ern... but glad he's not eating one of our roster spots..

Adam Hall also signed for 1 year with Philly... not sure if its a one-way deal but Im guessing he is the quintessential indispensible player to have in a tight cap environment... a guy who has experience, can play at the NHL level, but will sign for league minimum..

Alfredsson not going back to Ottawa. The Canadian Capital might riot.

On a side note, I flipped on the television this morning to catch the end of the replay of yesterday's "American Celebration" NHL Tonight. Two of them called the national anthem the "Star Spangle Spanner"

O' Blanada is obviously the better of the two anthems.

Matt Cooke in our division. Great. Hopefully Clune can stop him from getting to our prospects.

According to the NY Post's Larry Brooks ... McDonough just signed a 6 year 4.7/year extension with the Rangers ...

http://www.capgeek.com/rangers/

6,555,833 remains in Cap space, why do I get the feeling 1 or 2 of them is getting traded for prospects

2 way deal... I don't think he'll see the light of day on Dallas' roster.

#CBJ RW Nathan Horton will have shoulder surgery next week in Boston. Day has not been settled yet. 4-6 months recovery.

Kovalchuk left $77M on the table. That's mind-boggling just to think about.

The contract is so egregious that the league decided to strip them of a couple of first round draft picks ... damn

Preventative strike: let's please not turn the Kovalchuk discussion and, with it, this thread into an argument about Russian players. Thanks.

If anything, makes one wonder if there could be charges of collusion, that this contract was never intended to be honored by one or EITHER side for its whole term. Now the Devils have to get their financial house in order-- maybe this helps somewhat.

I don't see how it could be collusion. He has the right to retire. Now if he wants back in he will need the consent of NHL teams. Even if this is some sort of gentlemen's agreement finding evidence will be staggeringly difficult.

I'm just stunned. Was always a huge Kovy fan when he was with the Thrashers. I have to say, I don't really blame some of these guys. Make more money playing in their homeland in a fairly pressure-less league...can't say I wouldn't do the same. I'd be too much of a boy scout to breach a contract with 11 years left on it though.
