I would figure you do a scrum/conference at the end of the free agent bonanza, not right in the middle of the first day.

This is a good fit because his dog is a Twins fan

Enjoy, I'll miss having him on the Canucks.

Me. I always care when people wear the "M." When you win two national titles that's even more reason. Does it have anything to do with how Ballard will play this year? No. That doesn't mean I don't care.

No that's my speak for BNKB was a Gopher. Damn straight he was. Did I mention he was a Gopher?

That's the pont though. Your comment was he was awesome as a Gopher. So. What. It's fine to be proud of them for wearing your school's colors, I will always cheer on former Huskies. But as a pro, Ballard has not done much and it's his pro game that matters here, not how awesome he was winning two national titles a decade ago.

Go back to page 2 for the pro thoughts. I'm not repeating that long diatribe.

Not well he can't, no. Even if he starts there, believe me, he'll be back on the LD position soon enough. Put him with a defensively responsible, stay-at-home RD who can cover for his (sometimes quite grievous) mistakes, and he should be fine.

-----------------------------------------------------------

As with all things, there's a middle ground between those of us in Vancouver who think he was totally smothered and miscast by a coach who unfairly despised the sight of him and those who say he just plain sucked. He didn't fit on the Canucks, clearly enough. His salary was the sticking point, but you guys know that already. He wasn't nearly as bad as some have made him out to be, and he was imho unfairly benched and scratched in front of lesser dmen...but he does like his high-risk plays. Will get burned quite a bit of the time, but will also hip-check the hell out of opposing forwards unwary enough to skate north-south with their heads down.

I really have to admire his attitude, though. He took a mountain of **** and always stayed totally professional throughout what must have been a very trying experience here. For 1.5 mil, he should be a really solid pickup, motivated to resurrect his career and play in front his home state crowd.

Best of luck to you, Bally.

Ballard was incredibly mediocre defensively for the Gophs and probably my least favorite captain since I've been alive. Getting up close and personal to him, he had the worst breakout vision on those winning teams by a country mile and was only effective playing the rush and in the zone because the WCHA was so lenient on his hipchecks and hand clutch play. All that being said, I actually like this deal a lot as he is at the very least more effective then Stoner and Spurgeon.

Just finished listening to Russo's interview with Ballard on KFAN....Ballard made reference to the fact that he is still buds with Vanek from their Gopher days.

Fletcher is sly like a fox....

Who's Crosby's best friend? Can we sign him so he can coax Crosby into demanding a trade and only willing to waive for one team so we can low ball him out of PIT

That hadn't been mentioned yet?

Hell, we all thought that Tom Gilbert was brought in to lure Ryan Suter... Turns out, they barely knew each other... lawlz.

Could you tell just by the juxtaposition of their play? Or did they really not know each other?

Nah. It was Tom Gilbert talking about the Suter signing last summer. He said something like; "Yeah, we were at Wisconsin together briefly, but never played together."

Meanwhile, we had people here saying that they were roommates.
