While we are pushing closer to the cap than ever we still have 7m in space left and many predict the cap to go back up to 70m+ for 14-15 season. We still have room to work with and deals could be made if Poile is willing.

It's probably closer to $4 after we sign Jones and assuming we don't sign Spals. That said, there are ways to loosen up a little (trade Smith and his $2 mil?). I really doubt we add at all. Spaling for a low pick is about all I can see for now.

Thats right. We do have Jones to add. I forgot about his contract adding a good bit to our cap.

All I have to say is our 7.6M a year 4th line better make some noise this season!

That $7m doesn't include Forsberg either.

So what's the holdup with Spaling? Wants more than his QO?

Right now we have $7,097,024. Add Forsberg to the roster, and we have $5,636,191. Assuming Jones signs a deal comparable to deals signed by players picked in similar areas of the draft over the past few years we are looking at a minimum of another $3m, so $2,636,191. If we get Spaling back on his QO then that's another $1.1m.

We could be looking at only $1,536,191 in cap space in reality.

Until we trade a few of these pieces for a true upgrade in the top 3...

But then we'll be right back to the same low cap space since that player will undoubtedly cost $6m+

I don't believe it, but the Boston beat writer speculates that Marchand could be moved. Smith + Ellis + pick?

He makes $4.5, so salary would have to be shed.

Maybe Rask is asking for a ton of money. If Marchand is moved it is to shed salary, so sending salary back wouldn't work. We would have to offload Ellis + Smith + Clune + not re-sign Spaling to make it work. That's a little over $5m in space right there. I doubt Boston takes more than maybe Smith and Clune, at most, which would still only give them a little under $2m in extra space. Or perhaps they are still interested in Ellis. Ellis + a pick for Marchand to dump salary, but we'd need a taker for the rest.

Listening to MvsW July 3rd ... according to Elliott Friedmann ... Rask is reportedly going to get Pekka + 1 year & $ ... 8 years 56 mil

I wonder if we'll see the same cries of "terrible deal!" if Rask signs that deal that we saw when Peks signed his own.

Wonder if some minor leaguers could get shedded for good ol' reliable "Future Considerations."

Rangers fan here. just wondering why did Nashville brass sour on Jonathon Blum so quickly? Wasn't he one of your highest regarded prospects like a season ago?

He isn't skilled enough to not play a physical game

They aren't counting our backup goalie yet either. Hutton is 550,000. So we're actually at around 6.45 M without Jones. You have to remember if we add Forsberg somebody won't be on the roster and we'll subtract their contract.

Trotz was quoted today by a few bloggers saying that FA signings were done , but a trade was still open. Pretty much verifies what most have been saying around here.
