if only we could have Zajac as #1 C for faceoff capabilities but then Lokti immediately morph into him right after

I think having Elias/Zajac on different lines is best for the defensive side of things, though.
Exactly. We don't employ the typical line set ups. We don't have a typical checking line. We expect all 4 to contribute on both sides of the ice.

I really hope he helps most on the power play. It's such a weakness for this team that just a mild improvement makes us worlds better and racks up points. (If we have a slightly better PP we make the playoffs last year)

Hopefully we can find an upgrade from Shaw for the PP. I keep getting worried that Sarge will get that job, but Lou has never been known to give a coach a start at the NHL level. He'll start out in Albany like Terreri did, if he's gonna get into coaching. Stevens had no AHL experience, but was part of the coaching staff in a special assignment role for 5-6 years before getting a legit job with the coaching staff. Oates wasn't that bad of a PP coach, the shorthanded goal problem was the only real problem, and it eventually was fixed.

Paul Maurice or Guy Boucher please!

I hope Larsson (and Greene for that matter) is playing the PP this year as watching Ryders goals, he scored heaps just drifting into the slot for deflections from Subbans perfect wristers.

Larsson is brilliant at deflectable wristers and slap passes.

Watching his video I can see him scoring lots of goals off of passes from Patty. Definitely seems like a guy who can have LOTS of fun with Elias.

I don't know about 30, but I think 20+ is not an unreasonable expectation.

Very true. Making a bold move like that sent a message to the whole league that Lou is serious about competing now and in the future.

That's definitely a consideration here. Boucher will be the one expected to fill the sniper role down the line, and it's definitely a good idea for him to pick up tips from guys like Kovalchuk and Ryder.

I would love if Boucher can fill this role after Ryder's contract comes to an end in a few years. Boucher's projection will be similar to this kind of player so it isn't too outrageous either.

Either way, Ryder here should be great for next year.

Michael Ryder is a career 12.8% shooter. He averages about 2-2.5 shots per game.

Players usually end up with lower shooting percentages when they come to the Devils. Probably system related. With that said, Ryder will probably get more shots in our puck possession system.

12% shooting at 210 shots equals 25 goals. I think that's a reasonable expectation.

25 goals is reasonable. I'm only expecting him to have 20+ each year. Anything more than that, and I'll say it's a successful signing.

Larsson has already had some dandy deflection shot/passes from the point these past few seasons, I'm excited to see him start to unleash them more frequently this coming season with ryder at es and especially the pp.

I think you guys are a little bit too hype about this one.. This is definitely not a steal, I think it is just fair value. MTL had the roster spot and the money for Ryder; there are reasons why we didn't offer him any contract. I think you guys haven't seen him play enough..

IMO, he is one of the most one-dimensional player in the league. Don't get me wrong, he is a really good goal scorer, great wrister(fast release and very good accuracy)(however average one-timer) but this is mainly the only thing he can do. For the amount of points he can get, it is suprising how invisible he can be. Overally low IQ player, especially defensively, doesn't really complement any line well(look like he is playing alone), little bit awkward when he has the puck, low vision/passing ability, below average speed and can't use his body effectively/doesn't hit. The only thing that he seems to be thinking about in a game; is to have a good lane to take his wrist shot. And when Ryder have slump, it is just painful to watch. Not a bad guy, but will never be the type of player to wear an "A" or a "C" on his jersey.

He probably has two good seasons of 25-30 goals left in him, this is great but he really need to get those goals to be consider a decent player.

It's fine with me. We already have enough ''Two way'' forwards. As long as he doesn't give back every single point that he scores, it's cool with me.
