McCoshen will be a project, but the hope is he is going over to a good program in Boston College with head coach Jerry York (who is currently the all-time winningest head coach in college hockey) with Matheson, so maybe that also went into the thought process of drafting him. Interestingly, New Jersey selected 6-2 205lbs defenseman Steven Santini 11 spots after McCoshen and he too will also be attending Boston College. Hopefully Ian will be the better pick of the two.
I'd also add that Ellerby did not have McCoshen's offensive skills or hockey sense. McCoshen is known for his smarts and being very reliable. Ellerby is huge and can skate like the wind, but he struggles in processing the game.

Santini is very similar to McCoshen, but is more physical and has less offensive ability.

Yeah might just be a coincidence, but with the Mike Mottau signing, we could probably say Dale seems to like d-men who go into/out of the Boston College system....maybe he tried to sign Rob Scuderi in free agency too.

This draft gets an A. Barkov, Jones, and Drouin were close enough in terms of BPA that you could choose for need. I can't assume who Tallon and the Panthers had rated higher or lower throughout the draft.
