I wish somehow we could pry Stasney away from Colorado. He would make us so much better.
we say that missing that open net has messed him up but come on.. that was a year and a half ago.. if his psyche is that crappy he's got zero chance of turning things around....

and Statsny is only signed for one more year at 6.6 million... so first, the only way we can fit him in under the cap is to get rid of salary, like the 2 million we are going to be paying Smith, and second, I wouldnt give up assets for a guy who could leave next summer

Legwand - Cullen - Stalberg (speed, I like Legwand on a wing)
Bourque - Fisher - Smith/Beck
Forsberg - Wilson - Hornqvist (protected minutes, gets Wilson started at C)
Nystrom - Gaustad - Hendricks

Probably a dumb question, but does Smith need to clear waivers to start in Milwaukee? If not, I see he and Watson battling for first call-up.

Wilson - Cullen - Stalberg
Bourque - Legwand - Hornqvist
Forsberg - Fisher - Beck
Nystrom - Gaustad - Hendricks
Clune

Smith does have to clear waivers to be sent or called up from the AHL.

Smith does not have to clear waivers to be recalled. The re-entry process was completely eliminated in the new CBA.

Beck will most likely start in Milwaukee, which is good because it lets him finish developing and gives us added depth in the minors to carry through the season. That's something we sorely lacked last year.

I'd kind of like to see the Preds sign Peter Mueller. Little bit more offensive upside than a guy like Cullen or Legwand.

I agree. I think he'd be available for a million or less.

In this case, I think/hope it will be a fun battle between these two and/or Watson to see who's our first call-up.

Yes, The good news is no one would want him with his contract.

wfome pointed out that the new CBA eliminated re-entry waivers. To send him down to the A he would have to clear. To be re-called he could be free to join the club without first clearing waivers. See CBA Article 13 § 3.

I'm not so sure about that. I think a team would take a chance on him.

He wouldn't clear waivers. I think everyone will be surprised at just how good he will look this year. Just a hunch.

Smith would get claimed off waivers in a heartbeat.

It's only $2M for 2 years. People act like it's a Gomez contract

A developing right winger with some probable scoring talent for $2m? Gosh, how HORRIFYING.

He'd be claimed. Easily.

Everyone is above the floor as it stands right now, so no one is desperate to reach that, but you still have teams with a decent amount of cap space who could use some help at forward if it means not taking on a big contract (Winnipeg, Florida, Calgary, St Louis, Toronto). Winnipeg would almost certainly take him. They only have 9 forwards under contract, and Burmistrov just set off for the KHL.

I don't think he would clear if he were put on waivers today. A lot of things will happen between now and the puck drop on opening night, though.

For Smith, it would be better for him to be claimed or traded. If he stays here I see him being a perma-scratch and essentially Blum-ing out at the end of the contract. In the Trotz system he has ZERO confidence and it really destroys his game. Part of this is Trotz's fault because of the quick reaction to bench anyone under 25 who makes a mistake.

Regardless of our own differentiated opinions I don't see how I'm any way Stalberg won't be on our first line or at the very least on our second line.

We signed him because of his ability and potential that was overshadowed by the likes of Kane Toews Sharp and others. Personally I like the signing. I still feel we need a proven true top 6 FWD but I firmly believe stalberg starts on the first line.

And I also think we're still looking for an addition

Was thinking this exact thing today, but isn't he another center?

I say sign mueller and move legs, spals, goose, and smith.

He can play center, but I think he's more a wing at this point. Loads of talent, no ability to stay healthy.

Free against the cap. But for an ownership group that is just now spending to the cap, and paying Shea's bonuses, and paying a bought out Hal Gill...I dunno.
