Definitely guessing Jagr.

Taking a look at the Canes roster I have no idea who they would want to move...

We have 5.5 million, but we also have several roster spots to fill.

We have 10 forwards, but one of those forwards is Kevin Westgarth, who was a healthy scratch most of the time last year.

We have 6 defensemen, but one of those is Mike Komisarek, who was also a healthy scratch last year.

So 3 forwards and 1 defensemen. That defenseman can be Brett Bellemore (700k) or Ryan Murphy (1.3 million). Roughly 4.8 or 4.3 million for 3 forwards.

Jagr at 3 million means we need 2 forwards for 1.8 or 1.3 million. Which is technically possibly, but in reality, not so much.

Both players are pending UFA's at the end of the year.
Some 'Canes fans would do this regardless of 'Jagr to Carolina'.

"Big time Free Agent"? That's gotta be Jagr. Only guy left that could remotely qualify to have that label...

Carolina looking to move out salary

JR said today the team is looking to move out some salary so they can sign a "big time free agent;" most say it is Jagr.

Moving out Ruutu would take too much physicality away from the Canes. I think it might be Pitkanen for a cheaper, right handed dman.

Jason Demers?
Mark Fayne?

Looking at Capgeek, if we trade Ruutu either to Toronto for Liles or to New Jersey for Volchenkov, we would get a net cap savings in the $500K-800K per year. That would open a hole in the top six and allow us to sign said Jagr or Brunner. Perhaps this is the deal that is being talked about.

Want a pick and prospect then? It shouldn't be hard to move Pitkanen to another team. I like Demers; I think he would fit in nicely in Carolina.

I'd take Pitkanen + a 2nd round pick for Fayne + Tedenby.

Grabovski or Armstrong. Rutherford loves ex-Leafs.

It was more Maurice who had the love affair with ex-Leafs.

Bryan Murray and JR have a long standing relationship, it could be a salary dump to Ottawa - who has a plethora of cap space and a little money to spend.

Ruutu hopefully!*

*yes, I doubt it too.

Maybe JR will bring back Arturs Irbe and his couch-cushion pads.

JR misses Corvo already. Ruutu and Victor Rask for Joe Corvo.

I think Jagr makes the most sense for this mystery player. Certainly the one year deal part and having to clear space since Jagr would command a 5+ million salary.

I hope he goes to Carolina, that way he likely misses the playoffs and get traded at the deadline again. Making his grand total of teams played for 8.
